Default Babysitting a friend's dog -- tips?

We're about to have this huge dog visit us for 4 days. We have 3 cats
and a 3 year old sheltie. We'll be babysitting this lab that's very
rambucious and large. Does anyone have tips on how to handle this
beast in our home? Slow introductions maybe? Ideas?

Have you had him over before? Is he cat-friendly? Does your sheltie like
him? What do you mean by "rambunctious"? Does that mean disobedient and
unhousebroken, or just playful? Is your sheltie going to want to play with
another dog? Is she even dog friendly? Is the lab crate trained? Does he
guard resources (food or toys)? Will he obey you? Is he up-to-date in
shots? Does he have fleas? etc...

If the answers aren't positive, or you don't know enough about this dog to
answer them, I have to wonder why if it's smart to bring him into your home.
Remember, it's YOUR pets home, too, and they might not take kindly to some
big galoot coming into their space and causing a ruckus. If this dog hasn't
been over to at least visit your animals a couple of times so you can see
how they interact, you might be better off suggesting your friends board
their dog for the four days, rather than cause unnecessary stress to your
pets.
