Marcie easily earned her third flyball title today - FDCh. She ran
really well for her first 2 races (5 heats each) but race three had a bit of a burnout and overload. Just in time to show SIONNACH that she's still just a crazy 19 month old puppy who loses her brain sometimes. GET *ALL* THE BALLS is her motto! She's still an amazing and great little dog and I'm having a blast with her. It was great to finally meet Sarah after a decade or so, and meet Brenin and Cenau (gad - did I spell that right?). They are both very lovely dogs. Marcie even bothered to give them a sniff - a high honor indeed! Our tournament has had many challenges, mostly due to weather issues (flooding rain, ankle deep and unable to tape mats until this morning, lights not functions, etc.,) but we muddled through today and are home in our own beds for the night and ready for another day tomorrow. We get to do this again in just a few more weeks, so we're on a roll! -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

She did have her brane cells in line at the beginning and end, and showed me she's got lots of drive and good timing over the jumps. It was great to finally meet Sarah after a decade or so, and meet Brenin and Cenau (gad - did I spell that right?). Yup. All speeled correctly. And it was great to finally meet in person! It was the perfect opportunity, since the flyball tournament was only a minor detour off of our route home from our morning agility class and play-time. I really enjoyed watching, and learning more about the sport. Plus, in addition to the members of your team I already knew, I ran into at least 5 other people I know from agility. They are both very lovely dogs. I think you're being generous in Bren's case, since he was doing his "stupid human, give me some food", and/or his "'scuse me but I have no off switch and I can't possibly lie down or sit when there's so much going on" routines most of the time. :-D Marcie even bothered to give them a sniff - a high honor indeed! She's a sweetie. Brenin definitely liked her, which is an honor from him; Cenau thought she was sexy. (I suspect she might have been a bit more interested in Cen if she hadn't had her mind on More Important Stuff... namely flyball.) |

Since this was only her second tournament (she had a 3rd sorta, but only ran 2 heats that we didn't expect to run), she's still so inexperienced, but last time (just last weekend!) she only had to race over 7". This time was over 11" and I had to pass a different dog for some heats. I think that alone influenced her ability to keep her little head straight. We'll definitely be focusing on working on the "stray ball" issue during the next 3 weeks before the next tournament. It's tough, because as much as I'd like to say that we can teach her that the ONLY ball she may have is the one from the box, the reality is that bobbles happen and she'd need to pick up her OWN ball from the floor as well, at some point or another. Maybe it's worth it though for those few times when that may happen, since stray balls are a much more common occurrence. 2-3 teams lost heats to us on the basis of her snagging one of their balls that came into OUR lane (interference). With more seasoned dogs, that isn't a big deal. With a green dog, the judge is pretty quick to call the other team on it. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |
