She had me with that gently-placed paw.

Yeah, me too.

She's a Lab mix, about 40 lb, short hair, cream with a dark snout, about 1
year old. Seems very calm and gentle, likes having her tummy scritched,
knows how to fetch and lean into a leg for a pet. The folks at the
shelter know nothing about her; she was picked up running loose and held
for 2 weeks, but no one claimed her, so she became available last Sunday.

She will be spayed Friday morning, and we will pick her up Friday
afternoon. One dog-sized hole in our home will soon be filled :-D .

Now, for a name... Suggestions?

Aw, this is wonderful. Sounds like the makings of great dog are all there,
and she'll be in the right home to bring them all together.

My suggestion for a name is Libby.

Woot!! Wonderful news. She sounds like a great dog.... can't wait to see
pictures!

None here... it usually takes me a week or so to name my OWN dogs, after
living with them awhile. Cen got named a bit faster only because I'd picked
some potential names out 2 years before, and one of them fitted him
perfectly.

And also my Dad's name! He would be very proud to have a fine young dog
share his name.

I was going to suggest that Friday would be fitting as that is when she's
coming home, then I remembered she who's shadow she would standing in and
it's only fitting and proper that she have her very own name.

I do like Layla, and it's a very fine song.

I am so happy for you and the little girl dog. She reminds me a bit of
the birthday girl, actually a very little bit. Chica is 37 pounds and
almost 1 year old. I call her fawn with a black muzzle. If I had to
narrow it down I would call her a terrier mix.

I am not good with names either. I usually change their name a few
times before settling on one. I am sure you will come up with one that
suits her just fine.

She just doesn't know how lucky she is yet does she? I am thinking she
was sad when you left. Did you tell her you would be coming back?
Friday will be a joyous day.

Furpaw, this is just an FYI. I am sure you have already investigated
everything.

I had Chica spayed at the Neuter Commuter. It is a bus that the county
shelter performs spays and neuters on for a mere 25.00. Of course they
do not provide after care and to my surprise they did not provide pain
meds. My vet was kind enough to do that. Perhaps she would have done
well without them but I did not want to take a chance.

I have adopted a dog from the shelter in Ann Arbor and they spayed her
before I could take her. They had state of the art veterinary care and
even follow up care. That was many years ago. I am sure it varies from
shelter to shelter.

My best wishes to you and your new addition.

I hope her annoying little cell mate has the same good fortune she has
had and finds a home soon.

We did, but I'm not sure she heard above the cacophony of barking
in the shelter!

Thank you. I did not think to ask about pain meds, but I will
call tomorrow morning and find out, and if they don't I'll get
some from my vet to have on hand.

Thanks! Tomorrow afternoon won't arrive soon enough!

So do I. If I felt equipped to deal with a puppy right now...
but I don't. There was also an adorable pit bull puppy brought
in just as we were finishing up the paperwork. About 8-10 wks,
they said. Picked up in a drug raid that morning.

What a sweetheart!!!

Congrats to you both (well, to you three :-)

If it wasn't so weird to use with commands,
I'd say she could be a Patience.

Indie?

Lou?

I had Gravy on my short list for my Annie but
there was already one of those in my
neighborhood.

No matter what you call her, she called you
first :-)

Layla's an 11 week old JRT puppy who just started in my daycare
(the same week as 11 week old pit bull El-Oh-El-Eh Lola). Both
are great names.

I think it's fantastic that you are bringing the new girl home.

No name suggestions here, our dogs always have multiple names. Why get
stuck with one?
