We found girl-dog today. It was so hard to choose among all the dogs at
the shelter, but I had a thin-slice moment with her. She was in a kennel with a 14 week-old pup, who was harassing her, and then snapping and snarling at her when she walked near his food dish. (Bratty, but a spunky little devil, too - he was about 1/3 her size.) Girl-dog didn't seem perturbed; she play-bowed, and then she gently placed her paw on his back, trying again to entice him to play. He wanted to continue barking and snarling over the food, so she just turned around, saw us at the gate, and walked over to offer a sniff and a few finger kissies. She had me with that gently-placed paw. She's a Lab mix, about 40 lb, short hair, cream with a dark snout, about 1 year old. Seems very calm and gentle, likes having her tummy scritched, knows how to fetch and lean into a leg for a pet. The folks at the shelter know nothing about her; she was picked up running loose and held for 2 weeks, but no one claimed her, so she became available last Sunday. She will be spayed Friday morning, and we will pick her up Friday afternoon. One dog-sized hole in our home will soon be filled :-D . Congrats!! Now, for a name... Suggestions? Cali was almost Maya. If I would have seen Eight Below before I got her, she would definately have been Maya instead of it just being a possibility. I also like Penny and Kenzie. Not matter what name you go with, I can't wait to hear the good stories and more importantly, see pictures! |

In my family, blonde girl dogs tend to be "Sadie". I don't know why, just 'tis. But I would lean towards Kayla or Kaia (k-eye'-ah). I have a thing about "K"s. -- Phyrie Kiba the Cav's Pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/phyrie/...758930/detail/ |

"Karla" wrote in message ... I do like Layla, and it's a very fine song. Karla My sister-in-law (hubby's sister) " married" a bass guitarist in the very early 70's. They had a girl child they called "Layla Anduin", for the Clapton song (the rock version) and the river in the Lord of the Rings (the books). SIL went on to later have a son (not with bass player) named "Kyle", and lastly, a daughter named "Kayla". If I was Kayla, I would have been a little pissed, but whatever. No one said your parents had to have imagination. Hell, I know a girl named Parsley. So much for imagination. -- Phyrie Kiba the Cav's Pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/phyrie/...758930/detail/ |

Now, for a name... Suggestions? Biscuit, for her creamy color and darker outer edges. The term means sweet cookie in the UK so that works, too. Or Toast, for the same reasons, and because if you hadn't chosen her, that's what she might have been. |

Nessa said in part...
We are leaning towards all H names or all motorcycle names for future dogs? _______________________________ Nessa I am dying of curiosity. You mentioned naming your future dogs motorcycle names or H names. Since I am a motorcycle enthusiast I am curious to know what names you had in mind? My motorcycle is a Harley and I like that name for a dog but I have never named one of my dogs that name because I already knew some dogs by that name. My motor is a Flathead and well......I just couldn't do that, though I did know a dog friend named Panhead quite awhile ago. Please tell me what names were you thinking of? Be Free.....Judy |
