Hi,
my GSP pup has been seriously ill but is on the road to recovery. The vet is not exactly sure what happened but hhe ad some serious problems with his rear legs when it came to walking. Something like a pinched nerve. While on the road to recovery he lost a lot of muscle mass in his rear legs. Were back to walking a few times a day to build up his strength. I can see him recovering physically but he's a changed pup. He is 8 months old. He sleeps the majority of the time and shows no interest in doing anything else. He's pretty lathargic. He does not want to play any games etc. Is this attitude just part of the recovery process? Thanks Alex |

Thanks Alex Our then 8-year-old miniature poodle was hit by a car and seriously injured a couple of years ago. Before then he had been a very high-energy dog. But he became very lethargic after the accident, even after his physical injuries seemed to have pretty well heeled. It took about 6 months, but he eventually started showing signs of his old self. It probably took close to a year before he was acting completely normally again. So be patient, your dog's illness may have been pretty traumatic and he may need more time to recovery. If he doesn't seem to get better within a reasonable time, you may want to have him reexamined for residual problems. Rick |
