Are you doing the Grapehound Wine Tour this year?

Alas, no; one person was unable to go at all, another couldn't leave
until Saturday, etc. Interestingly, there seems to have been some
sort of snit involving the Cayuga Wine Trail people and the greyhound
adoption people. So the greyhound adoption people went over to Seneca
Lake and arranged for an event where there will be a central location
in a big field with dogsitting, music, vendors, a silent auction, and
tasting from 'selected wineries' in that one location. In the
meantime, the Cayuga Wine Trail is still having their Grapehound
event, now open to dogs of all breeds, and there are going to be
hand-painted wine barrels on display at various wineries. We were
leaning toward attending the Cayuga event, and I'm sorry to see the
event becoming a giant greyhound reunion, because I go to enough of
those and they get boring and because this was a purely selfish, fun,
wine event for us. Also, while I am obviously a huge proponent of
greyhound adoption, I don't feel a need to give my personal funds to
adoption groups in other states, and I am also not a groupie who
travels all over to adoption group reunions in other states.

Well, you didn't need to hear about all that. I'd be interested in
anything you or Chris might hear about the success of either event,
both of which will be held the same weekend. We hope to come again
next year.

I am, but at the moment mostly overwhelmed by logistics.

Really recently I've looked after two different families' dogs
who were here during a migration from the lower 48 to Alaska.
There must be good stuff going on there.

I think so. This is for a combination of a cool job and,
uh, cool weather. There's something about Alaska that
captures the imagination, to be sure.

Oh. Well, ****. That is to say, how terrific for you and the dogs,
and I'm certainly not surprised. When is this going to happen?

You're so kind - thanks! I actually did look at a map to
see if we'd be passing through but it looks like we'll be
heading from Saskatoon through Edmonton. And the shocking
thing (to me) is that Edmonton is a very far great distance
from here yet it's only half-way to Fairbanks. The whole
trip is about 4100 miles. I'm worried about this long a
trip being hard on the dogs, particularly Image.

Around the end of the summer, I think. I'm heading up next
week to buy a house (eep!), then I'll start to deal with
details when I get back.
