I don't know the size of the animal or how much is in each fish cap but
I'd probably be on the mark by telling you that fish oil depletes vitamin e.http://www.helium.com/items/1445661-...ts-of-fish-oil...

Reduce the amount of fish oil and start adding a natural dose of
vitamin e. Also put the vitamin e on his pads.

My last vet fed salmon and sweet potato and it's a puzzling food choice.
It's usually used as a food for dogs with allergies when it would be
so much easier and cheaper just to feed raw. It's like a last ditch
effort to *not* feed raw when it's plainly the right choice in most cases.

It is totally possible to give too much of a good thing and I think you
are doing this with the salmon.

well since he has allergies I would imagine that salmon and sweet
potoato makes sense then.

Not really. It's just another attempt to keep you feeding kibble when a
much simpler and cheaper and more species appropriate solution is available.

and pretty much everyone here knows Harley is a small newf.

Not really. And you didn't mention exact dose of fish oil. The caps come
in different sizes.

he's
around 100 pounds. probably not getting enough oil to be honest.

The amount of oil is not as important as following up with natural
vitamin E which you didn't mention, although too much definitely causes
itches too. Are you giving it to counter act the fish oil? Or would you
rather attack me some more rather than take a good suggestion?

Where did Nessa attack you? Is it even possible for you to make a post
without hectoring someone? You have a right to offer suggestions,
good or otherwise, but others have a right to reject them, right? None
of us (including Nessa) know with any certainty what may, or may not
be going on with this dog, so why can't you cut her some slack?

You might want to look in the mirror as you say that.

we're gonna try bag balm

Brenin had problems with dry, cracking paws during the first year I had
him, with occasional milder issues during very hot weather (mostly because
he spent so much time getting in and out of Lake Roland) for another couple
of years. Bag Balm worked very well to soften them & prevent cracking; I
used to massage it into his paws before agility.

The original problem was most likely related to corn allergies, since he
had other sensitive skin issues when I got him that cleared up after he'd
been on better food for long enough.

You still didn't mention if you are giving vitamin e to counteract the
doses of fish oil. Is that because you didn't know to do that?
