We though she had "got it" w/r/t counter-surfing. She had pulled
a couple of things down that were attached with a string to a coin can, and then it seemed to stop. A package of bratwurst was too much temptation. She took advantage of our brief departure from the kitchen and scarfed down nearly a pound. Hubster came back in to find her licking the empty package. A quick application of hydrogen peroxide brought the brats back up - it's pork and fatty, not exactly doggie health food. What was amazing was that (TMI alert - stop reading here ...) .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. she had swallowed 3 of 4 links whole! FurPaw -- Don't believe everything that you think. To reply, unleash the dog. |

she had swallowed 3 of 4 links whole! ______________________________ FurPaw Never mind the genetic testing I think the swallowing whole links of sausage confirms her breed. She must be a Lab. I am teasing and recalling my hog dog Buck who appeared to be a Lab. He could consume more food than any dog I have ever had and like Molly he didn't bother to chew when he was in a pressure situation like counter surfing. Be Free.....Judy |

While no one was looking, Maggie managed to eat the tops off four of them. David was ready to kill her, but couldn't help noticing that she got all of the top of the first one, then less and less as she went down the row...apparently the pan wasn't quite even on the counter. She must be a Lab. A good friend of mine had a black lab named Chile (hint, never name a lab after a food item, it makes things worse). She was a very small lab and had not just horrible conformation but also severe elbow dysplasia. Didn't stop her from getting what she wanted. Once, in her old age, we went over to my friend's for dinner and I took a Panera Bread mini-asiago. For those of you who aren't familiar with panera, it's a narrow loaf, about 12" long by 3" high and 4" wide. Now mind you, Chile could no longer get on the counter. But she convinced the Springer to knock it down for her then off she went. They were so sneaky that we had no clue until we eyed her suddenly suspiciously large stomach. You could clearly see the outline of the loaf in there. Not much chewing going on. She passed it just fine. |

Same goes for a Chihuahua - my Chile's appetite didn't have an "off" switch! Chile is a country in South America, not a food. Char Um, Chard... "chile" is also Spanish for "hot pepper," mostly in use in the Americas. As in chile ancho, chile de arbol, chile rojo, chile verde, chile piquin... and chile con carne (not "chili con carni" as I've seen it *******ized in the Midwest, but then, the dish itself was *******ized). And there's chile renello. Anyway, apparently none of this was on the mensa test. |

And since Chile's owner just happens to also be a gourmet chef... Chile is gone now, but she was a bright spirit despite a lifetime of dealing with some really horrendous genetic problems caused by poor breeding. |
