I have used 1-800 and had an uneventful
experience. I have also used overseas
pharmacies (that others I trusted had used
before me) and also had uneventful experiences.

If I can, I do *try* to buy medications from
my vet. I know its more expensive, but the
way I look at it is the extra cost helps them
stock medications that are lifesaving though
not commonly used. Those meds tend to sit
there on their shelves as a "just in case it
can save a life"....but those drugs expire as
well. My own vet goes through thousands of $$
each year throwing out expired meds that she
chooses to keep on hand in the event of an
emergency. I figure buying what meds I can
from her helps make sure those drugs are
there in case MY guys are that emergency.

For things she can't provide (or, at times
like this summer when my income is severely
restricted), I get them as cheaply as
possible. One of my kittens has severe lung
disease and is on several puffs of Flovent
every day. I could either spend a few hundred
dollars per month - even via US online
pharmacies - on his medication by buying it
here (which is simply not possible), or I can
order from a couple of trusted online
pharmacies in Canada or Singapore and pay a
small fraction. I've had to go with the
latter. Its worked out fine so far.

Yep. I do get my meds from my vet. Supplements, etc. I tend to get from
KV Vet, especially joint supplements. Huge selection, great service. I
just made an order today.

I'm not at all inclined to pay inflated vets charges for meds or for
unneeded vax and have found numerous alternatives over the years.

But I gather that it is becoming increasingly common for some vets
to price-match (or approximate). When I printed a page from
an online vet supply for a wormer and asked my vet for a price-match,
she was amenable.

If, say, an online vet supply wanted $16 + 4 (s/h) for med X and the
vet wanted $30, I'd offer as much as $20 (to any vet I'd trust to
examine my dog). This could benefit both parties (not to mention the
pet).

Good thing your vet is probably still
inclined to save your pet's life with
medications that have lost money by keeping
stocked over many years.

Last year I had a dog with heart problems and I saved a lot of money by
ordering online. I did compare a few and Petmeds was not a deal. I ended
up using PetCareRx and feel I got a great deal. I don't know if they are
still the best deal, things can change fast online.

What was nice was that the vet could give them a script for up to 6
months worth of meds at a time and I could order more than one months'
medications and save on shipping.

Since I was buying two different medications plus some alternative ones
it saved me money and helped me help my boy live over a year longer than
he would have.

The vet was very surprised when I made an appointment to bring the dog
in for a check up after a year had gone by. Buddy evidently wasn't
supposed to live anywhere near that long, and he made it another 4-5
months after that.

I attribute his longevity to a very good raw diet including a lot of raw
beef heart and to CoQ10 among other things. I'm hoping the vet learned
something from the experience. He was one that never looked past his vet
schooling into other modes of treatment and feeding. If you don't keep
learning you get stale!

Needless to say I don't use him anymore, although I really haven't had a
problem that has required help from a vet.

ps
I noticed that when I tried leaving their website they offered me an
additional 10% off if I ordered right then. Sounds like a good deal!
