So we have been under the impression that our pooch Sadie is a Australian Cattle Dog / Collie mix. We're not sure as she was a rescue pooch. Looking at pictures of dingo's I'm more convinced she might be a dingo.. Collie mix is a good quess. She looks like a really nice dog - I'm partial to that colour. -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

They seem to be more mixed with domestic dogs. There is a female dingo that used to get quite close to me at Mungo Brush north of Hawks Nest when I was beach fishing at night. I used to leave fish frames and a couple of whole ones behind whenever I saw her in the hope she wouldn't wander into town and grab a stray maltese terrier or something. Steve |

Ok, I can't access picasa from here, so I can't see what your Sadie looks like but... You are aware that cattledogs have some amount of Dingo in their bloodlines, yes? In fact, their overall size and body type are very similar. But if there is cattledog in her mix, then there may also be some blue or red merle coloring (from Blue Merle Collies), and possibly even some Dalmation spots (ours has some on his tail) or some black-and-tan from Kelpie, all part of the mix that cattledogs were bred from. And just because shape or coloration could be very similar (look up pictures of a "red heeler", another name sometimes used for these dogs), there are other elements that make up the breed besides appearance, like behavior and temperment. And even there, there is some variation between show/pet lines and working lines... --Glenn Lyford |

Yes, she's likely a red heeler. She's just much taller and thinner than all the other cattle dogs I've seen. Could get that from the collie though. Yeah, now that I can see the pics she is leggier and has a longer face than I'm used to, but as you say, the collie could account for that. She certainly seems to have the chest build, energy, and high drive, though. Enjoy your dog, looks like she has has a great group to hang out with... --Glenn Lyford |
