White Sheperd

It's ShepHERD... as in herding, which is what they do. At any rate, I
was just joshing around. Forgot to put in a smiley, but now I'm not
too sure it would have helped. You might try to dial that anger down a
bit. You're not likely to win friends for your breed by insulting the
owners and fanciers of other breeds. Each breed has a purpose and a
function. Yours is no different... and no better than any other. It's
the right one for you and that's great. No need to tear others down.

Sorry for the typo we can't all be perfect typist. I am in no way
anger and never tried to tear down anyones breed and don't need to win
points or friends of my breed. i never tried to degrade or insult
anyone's breed I was giving my opinion and disagreements with Cindy
Cooks thoughts, that was the original idea. I didn't make up those
meanings for the word cur they have existed for sometime and I was
only using the teminology put forth by dogmen/women be for me.

Here is a bit from culprits post. "Etymology: Middle English, short
for curdogge, from (assumed) Middle English curren to growl (perhaps
from Old Norse kurra to grumble)"
You can maybe get some insight on how the meaning stemmed most cur
breeds (breed other than APBT) will growl during a fight while Pits
will be mostly silent. Cur dogs can be aggressive and bark and growl
at other dogs while Pits remain silent and ready or whine. The term
cur for a Pit Bull who quits a fight comes for a similar reason. When
a dog is showing signs that it might want to quit it may growl, snap
and lash out, put its hair up, ect most things that other breeds of
dogs do in a fight other than a Pit Bull and those other breeds were
considered curs to dogmen it became a common term and is still widely
used. If the Pit Bull quits its then known as a cur because its
considered an inferior dog and can fight no better than those other
breeds of dogs refered to as curs. Sorry if that offend anyone. I
don't think the terminology was ever ment to be offensive.

Well, the way you use it is. Or at least it is to me. (And believe
me... I *don't* get offended easily!) A lot of things
(words/labels/ideas/behaviors) were once considered the norm and were
not in the least bit offensive. Now they are. Times change...

BTW/FWIW: My dictionary (Webster's New World) defines a "cur" as 1. a
mixed breed or mongrel dog, or 2. a contemptible person. Dictionaries
aside, there are recognized breeds and types of dogs with the word
"Cur" as part of their official names, as I believe Lynn K. pointed
out to you.

Bottom line... You are not on a Pit Bull bulletin board or private
email list here. This is a newsgroup about all types and breeds of
dogs. There are other folks here besides me who would read your posts
and see your comments as aggressive, confrontational and just plain
derogatory -- especially on a thread that purports to "educate" people
about the APBT. Don't folks in general have a bad enough impression of
your breed without feeling they have to "beware of the owners" too?

Here's an idea... Why not just drop the whole "dogmen said this or
that" bit and just talk about dogs in terms of our modern world and
using language we can ALL understand? Makes good sense?
