Default New dog search, ongoing

Hi,. I hope you dont mind that I'm still looking for the 'right for us'
rescue dog.

We've checked 2 since 'Apple' and one needed more activity than we can
provide (we are up front and not looking to make one unhappy).

One is possibly available that fits our needs. Older, looking for a final
home. Saint Bernard.

What can you folks tell me about them? I know little more than their size
and furryness and a neighbor when I was a child was the worst sort of
puppy-farm with them living in the basement. I think the only human
interaction those pups had was me trying to play across a fence. THe older
mated pair was no better and I'd see them drool on their toes them look up
to see if it was raining. I highly suspect my limited experience is an
abberation of the type.

Can you teach me more?

If you google St. Bernard and do some reading on the web sites that
search turns up, you'll know more than I do about the breed. There
may be some St. Bernard owners here, but if not, that's your best bet
to start with.

I have limited experience with this breed. I know they slobber and are very
strong!
I have found some info in a UK dog magazine Dogs Today.

Life expectancy 8.5 years. Size 70-75cms. They need a spacious home and
take time to obedience train but they have wonderful characters. Inherited
disorders Hip Dysplasia and heart problems.
If you google St bernards I'm sure you will find lots of info. look for a
St bernards rescue and they might have a contact number or e.amail addy
where you
ask for information.
good luck with your search.
Alison
