This is R little "Skipper" He is 25 lbs & 8 yrs old. He has some issues
when it comes 2 his eating habits. He begs us 2 feed him, (we give him
1/4 cup of food when he does eat) about every 3 hours. We feed him
Purina One weight management formula. He's overweight by about 7 lbs.

Hi Debra,

You may want to go to rec.pets.dogs.health which is currently more feeding
related.

Some dogs though are what is called 'chow hounds' and you aren't the first
to deal with that. Mine will happily beg to eat every 3 hours if I allowed
it. Instead, he gets fed in the morning (about 6am) and evening (about
6pm). If you fed him the same daily amount but split in 2, how much would
it be per feeding?

Cash-pup also gets a nooner noshe of broth (1/2 cup) with a little bit of
meat (3tb or so) because that's when we give broth to the cat and it's not
right to feed one without the other. The nooner noshe is adjusted out of
what fits for a whole day and Cash is also over optimal but by about 4lbs on
a currently 56lb dog.

Hate to tell you but 7lbs over on a 25lb dog is obese. It's serious and for
his health you really need to trim it back.

Where did this post come from? Is this all Debra Phelps wrote or have you
snipped it? All I can see is your reply to it, not her original post. I
have a couple of things I could say to her, but I don't want to reply to
your reply, just in case her post is not intact. I looked in .health,
..misc, .breeds, and .info. Don't see it.

Where did this post come from?

She posts from WebTV so may be filtered out. Also she attached a picture
which Cox carried over and I snipped.

Is this all Debra Phelps wrote or have you snipped it?

I am in the conversation, but I do stay very busy most days so I don't
get in the discussion as much as I would like. My Skipper is always
beggin 4 something. Also been told it is he breed but don't beleive all
that is the problem. I'll check on the site about feeding again 2 C if I
find anything else. Thanks

Cut out the labels from the bag of kibble that you feed your dog, there
are two of them, one with ingredients and other with specification of
food (percentages of Protein, Fat, etc). Take it to your vet and ask him
what to do, how often to feed your dog and advice of what to look for in
different food if such is necessity.

When your dog is 'begging' for a meal you may

1. withdraw you attention to him (just turn around and walk away, ignore)

2. have him to do something eg. sit, down, sit. down then release him, if
your dog is not train to do that occupy him with anything you can.
