Hi there,
I'm new her and trying to get some advice other than from my vet. I have a dog that has had a long run of ear yeast infections. My vet just keeps giving him antibiotics and ear drops but I just can't keep paying out and then it jus comes straight back. Can anyone recommend something different, other tahn a different vet? Baz Yes, colloidal silver works great and so does white vinegar and water but if you want it to stop you have to stop the source which is grains. There are a few grain free foods out there but your best option is to change over to a more species appropriate diet of real meat, bones and organ meats. IOW stop feeding kibble! Most canned food is full of it too. Dogs are carnivores and commercial foods aren't appropriate for dogs to begin with. http://www.daybreakaussies.com/raw_feeding.htm |

Are you sure the vet said *yeast* infection? Can anyone recommend something different, other tahn a different vet? If indeed your pet has a *yeast* infection and is being given antibiotics, then yes. You need a better vet. One of the things that a mild food allergy can cause, is ear problems. Things to look at avoiding is wheat, soy, and corn in the dog's diet as those are the most common suspects. There are many ways to do this from 'raw feeding' (be sure to ask how to do that as it's not just a handful of ground beef required to keep them healthy) to swapping to a food which has none of the 3. I'm using Blue Wilderness dry combined with a fair amount of raw for my dog. He has ear issues but they seem to be reducing. We can though clearly tell he's getting re-infected with ear yeast issues from his buddy, Daisy-chan (cat) who simply insists on sleeping with him. Heheh he's warm, she's a cat. Her ears treat easy, his tend to be harder so the mini-problem she has and fixed in a few days, lingers two weeks for him as we treat it. Up-shot is his new blue wilderness and raw diet seem to be making him more resistant to catching her infections. Going to take a bit longer to be sure. Now, ;-) do not even *think* about me trying to separate them! Ain't happening! |

My springer spaniel has had bad ears since I got her as an adult, her left ear having a bacterial infection & the right ear being infected to a lesser degree. My vet had me try OTOMAX, then MOMETAMAX, T8 KETO for flushing etc; I tried silver colloidal, vinegar & water, vinegar/water/alcohol and I even tried BLUE POWER another homeopathic remedy made of wich hazel, boric acid & gentian violet topical solution AND of course many rounds of antibiotics. This year was her 10th birthday and I was fearing having to put her down early to relieve her of the constant head shaking and the debilitating effects of a bacterial infection in an older dog. My heart was heavy for my little Kayla, and so in a last ditch effort to remedy this situation I abandoned a 20+ year relationship with my dogs veterinarian. My new vet took slide samples and sent them out to a very high end laboratory for proper testing. The new lab sent back the results of all maladies found on the slides along with a chart of medicines that treated EACH issue. The lab determined that FOUR of the worst maladies involved could be treated with a single medicine....... BAYTRIL (enrofloxacin) 2.27% antibacterial injectable solution made by Bayer. I treat her ears thusly: 7am - a few drops of Epi-Otic Advanced in each ear. 8am - dosage of Baytril in each ear with syringe dropper (not injected). 2pm - two drops in each ear of SYNOTIC a drying agent. 7pm - Epi-Otic Advanced again. 8pm - Baytril by dropper in ears again. It is a commitment to do this on time and getting dosages just right but here's the GREAT NEWS....... within 48 hours Kayla had finally stopped shaking her head, w/in 72 hours NO more gooey matter EVER appeared in her ears. I am now in week 6 of the 8 week regimen prescribed by Kaylas new doctor. Kayla has not only been cured of her ear infection but has regained so much spunk and energy that I'm sure to have my healthy little girl around w/out having to worry about an infection shortening her life. Dr. Piller can now see down into both ears and can see her ear drums (both intact btw) clearly. Kaylas condition was so bad that even Dr. Piller was surprised a bit by how quickly and completely this worked for her. I feel so badly now that I let her suffer @ the hands of that other vet for 8 years, ALL he ever said (after taking slide samples himself) "I see some yeast in there and maybe a few ear mites moving around, let's try some of this......." I will find out which lab did the excellent work and put it in this thread for you all. Good luck and don't give up, I can hardly describe or recall Kayla's ears at their worst w/out feeling a bit teary eyed for her. She's now in better health than ever and enjoys her life to the fullest. Contact me if you feel the need, I'll do what I can to guide you in the right direction. |

I have a natural remedy for outcome of this situation :
switch your pet off of dried food and give him or her wet food. This is because dry food is carbohydrates which turns into sugar and helps to feed the yeast. |
