Don says today Sammy just got his first noted 'Daisy-chan special'. She's
been doing this for years to Cash when his arthritis bugs him. She climbs up gently and uses all 4s (claws rully retracted) and just settles in and gently kneeds the affected spot. Shifting lightly about, she gives a full backrub then once all seems loose to her level of satisfaction, she just sorta drapes a warm body of the part that was hurting and forms a warm furry purring blanki for a bit. Sammy got up stiff this morning for his morning pee then breakfast and went back to lay down right away as his tramadol kicked in. Daisy noticed it and came right over. Don tells me Sammy looked like he was in 7th heaven ;-) Sammy gets 7mg Tramadol twice a day. I called the vet today as he was pretty stiff, and Vet says as long as I keep to 14 mg a day, I can do 5 morning, 4 'lunch noshe' and 5 at night. They recommended a later evening 'munchie feeding' with his meds, say about 8-9pm so it doesn't completely wear off before morning dose. Based on my feeding habits, they recommended the 'bedtime munchie' be a finger fish with the meds in the slit belly. I'll try it tonight. He's been on it long enough he seems to associate the somewhat bitter flavor with pain relief although he obviously *prefers* a stronger flavor to mask it somewhat. The fingerling fish is easier and doesn't have the spoilage issues of the fish liver paste he was on. |

Don tells me Sammy looked like he was in 7th heaven ;-) Oh man, what a bummer you missed it! That's a huge event! Hopefully it will become a regular event that you can enjoy, too. Reminds me of the cat stories in hospitals where cats know who has cancer or who is going to pass. I remember one story where a lady's cat kept biting on her boob which wasn't normal for him. He kept going to the same spot and it turned out she had cancer there. Sounds like Daisy-chan has a sixth sense for arthritis and wants to help.
