Default Keep away

Dakota and Sierra have started playing keep away outdoors where one will
have an object and run around daring the other to take it. Most of the
time they swap off, one has it then the other has it, except for one
item which Dakota doesn't ever let Sierra have but they still run around
and enjoy the chase.

Integrating the two has been one of my bigger worries with all of the
cautions I've heard regarding their breeds and a few cautions about
having two females.

They both instigate play with each other and Sierra will go right up to
Dakota while she's eating trying to steal a piece if I'm not watching
closely. No reaction. The only reaction has been one due to an error I
made one day trying to give them each a different chewie and they both
wanted the same one. I had used one that Dakota lost interest in long
ago assuming it would be safe but that was an error on my part.

Now I give each the exact same regardless and it goes well. I think
they've both realized that I make sure it's fair and won't allow one to
overtake the other. Mama rules.

I actually worry more about Sierra when she grows up than Dakota as she
seems to be the rougher of the two with her play and Dakota does not
make any attempt to correct her. I don't think Sierra learned how to
play nice even though she had siblings to practice on. Of course, no
way to know if they were ever allowed to play together.

So I watch over carefully and if I don't like what I see, I interrupt.
All three of us are learning with this one, Dakota, Sierra and I with me
having the final say. Hopefully that will ensure a peaceful household
for many years to come.
