There was a recent case in Texas that involved several species of
animals.... Horses and cattle.... and Rotties, plus a few other species, including a monkey. The horses were noted by folks passing the property regularly to be in bad shape, and someone notified the authorities. Turned out to have 138 (or was it 238? Huge number, anyhow) Rottweilers. Another case of a breeder being unable to sell the puppies.... not involved in the sport of dogs, so no one in the breed knew they existed, to get them help. The American Rottweiler Club sent in their disaster team (formed due to experience after Katrina) to evaluate the dogs. I haven't heard the outcome from my Rottie friends, but they expected that most of the dogs would NOT be salvageable due to total lack of socialization... to say nothing of inbreeding magnifying probable genetic physical and temperament problems. This type of breeder never starts with good breeding stock. At least someone local to the raid knew of the Rottie club's ability to help..... and made the contact. Jo Wolf Martinez, Georgia |
