Hi,
Well after fairly little thought we decided to skip the surgery. It's incredibly invasive and would potentially involve removing a rib as well as leaving a large incision. We can't see putting him through something like that, especially at his age. 4 or 5 maybe, 12 no way. It looks like the tumor is well differentiated and hasn't metastasized, it's about 4.5cm in diameter. At this point it appears it will just get larger and eventually impact his breathing and overall health. Optimistic guess is 9-12 months before his quality of life starts to be seriously impaired, although it could be shorter or longer. We're just going to monitor it with x-rays every 90 days to make sure we catch anything that might result in discomfort/pain, such as spreading to other areas, and enjoy him while he's here. Needless to say he's being spoiled quite a bit.... :-) Thank you for the kind thoughts and prayers. |
