If so, what are your opinions regarding it.
I'm reading it now, for about the third attempt. And I am about to put it
down again, because I think this woman is working with VERY stupid dogs,
Her experiences must be really bad with dogs.
I just don't get this book.

I loved the book, though I have to admit I read it several years ago
and don't recall that much about it right now.

I could swear you were recommending it highly not that long ago.
Maybe I am thinking about another book or another poster. There was a
time when lists of "must read" books were being posted here and I was
wondering if I would ever have time to read any of them. That name
and the one about bones raining from the sky stuck in my mind for some
reason. Too bad I am too lazy to Google it! What is the premise of
Culture Clash?

! What is the premise of
Culture Clash?

1. Dogs don't do anything to please you
2. Dogs are stupid and must do things over and over and over and over and
over to learn it.

My vet likes to recommend it, even though she disagrees with most of it,
primarily because it emphasizes that you actually have to put some work
into dog training.

Heh...Bodhi chewed _Bones Would Rain from the Sky_
(which I *was* going to attempt to sell used online). Shredded
the jacket, and destroyed the spine.

And he gnawed the corners of a WWII book of my husband's, called _The Last
Days of the Third Reich_. I got over him chewing my book, but my husband
still bitches. I can't even count the number of times I've said, "You
leave it down, it's fair game."

Coda licked (yes, it was soggy when Bodhi & I returned) nibbled _Tracking
from the Ground Up_, but I think that's because it smelled good, like hot
dogs or something else that I had in the training bag w/ the book at one
time. It's still very usable.

Now there's a book I didn't like at all.

The only book Cinder ever destroyed was "Dog Locomotion and
Gait Analysis." She'd never lived inside and it took a few
weeks for her to develop house manners. Emmett, on the
other hand, was an amazingly destructive puppy who conspired
with the cats to destroy a lot of books, some of which had
sentimental value. Moby George would pull books off the
shelves and Emmett would play rugby with them. None of my
other dogs have destroyed books, although shortly after she
moved here Image, who also had never lived inside,
methodically chewed a length of speaker wire into a very
neat pile of 1" pieces. Never did it again, fortunately.

I never could get myself to finish it. I remember when I bought it, trying
to decide between it and _Other End of the Leash_. I choose poorly.

That is one on my list of "Need to buy" books. I bought _Dogsteps_,
but afterward realized I want a bit more in-depth.

Bodhi is funny. He'll go months, then one day he'll just get a hankerin'
to chew. Nearly always paper products, and never, ever when
we're home, I think one issue I have is that they'll fight over
food, otherwise I'd leave stuffed kongs or the like for them.
I'm trying to get creative...

Hmmm. Haven't read Suzanne's book but I do like some of her articles on
her website. I have "Other End of the Leash," and frankly it offended me
on several levels. She seems to think that dogs who aren't endlessly
accommodating to humans should not exist--the concept of working dog
temperaments never begins to enter her mind. Plus her whole dominance
theory is pretty lame--she judges who is dominant by who pees over who.
Gee, neither of my girls pees over the other one, and they get along fine.

Viva has turned pica. Sigh. Any cloth is susceptible. Dog beds get
strips torn off and eaten. Very frustrating because she's secretive and
FAST.

Wow...how old is Viva now? And, didn't you say she's been on
"light-duty" for a bit because of an injury? Do you think the two
are connected?
I am fairly certain of 2 things where Bodhi is concerned:
1) his shred-a-thon seems to happen shortly before
I get home--the stuff is usually still soggy.
2) it's almost always happened on Thursdays--which is now my long day(I'm
gone almost 8 hours, whereas other days they're only alone about 6-6 1/2
hrs. We used to have Obed Wed night, and Agility Thursday night, now both
classes are on Wed. night.).

I've been trying to arrange my schedule so the overlap-alone time is
the same all week, but I just have a difficult time waking up *early*
Thursday a.m.'s after being out until nearly 10 the night before. I'm
trying...he is by far the most "routine oriented" dog I've ever known.

She's 7. Yes, she's pretty much inactive at the moment because of her
back, but she's been pica for almost 2 years now. She has always been a
blanket sucker but didn't use to actually eat anything. Now I cannot
leave anything at all in her crate and I have to watch her. At this show
this past weekend I did leave a bed in the crate, the dogs were crated
out of the car. It was a new bed, and she's much better in the car than
at home. She did fine all weekend until just before we left when I took
Cala out to run with a couple of other dogs before the trip home. I
couldn't let Viva run with them because she would overdo. In less than
10 minutes she ate a 2 foot by 8" wide strip out of the bed.

If I had to trace it to anything, I would have to say it started after
she got spayed. I have no idea if that had any influence, but she wasn't
pica before the spay, and she started shortly after.

Viva is also very routine oriented. It's a leftover from her first life.
She likes structure and being in control.

I thought it was terrific. I'm going to pick up a
replacement copy. When I asked the Siberian Huskies Mushers
mailing list for a recommendation on dog gaits and movement,
they were unanimous in recommending it.
