Default Weekly update (by Marcel for Moolgi) - LONG

Sorry for the delay, but real life things (like a wedding) got in the
way.

Executive Summary:
Moogli is not a fan of my brother
Statement from my mom about Moogli
Moolgi goes on vacation.
Moogli's acrobatics
Moogli discovers that he is (was??) a man
The race circuit

Well, the wedding is a week and a bit in the past, all the gifts have
been recieved and opened (disappointed in the distinct lack of gidts
from rpdb and aad people). Thus, I have been reminded by some people
that I need to post an update. Thus, here goes:

Some of you may have gotten this from previous posts. Moogli is not a
fan of my brother. The first time my brother showed up in the apartment
was when Gen went to pick up Shawn from the bus station. They got home,
let Moogli out of the cage, and Moogli spent the day either hiding
behind Gen or barking at my brother from undereath the futon or the
living room table. Wierd little dog. However, any uncertainty would
disappear when it came time for my brother to take a nap. Then, Moogli
would decide to nap with him. However, once my brother would wake up
again, it was back to fear. The fear thing lasted longer than I thought,
mainly because my brother spent a lot of time out with friends, thus
Moogli never really had to spend a lot of time around him. Nearest I can
figure, Shawn wierded Moolgi out because he has the same general body
type as me, moves like I do, but, he is *not* me. Once Shawn started
spending some time at home, Moogli got a bit better, but he was still
uncertain. He would crouch, moving forward *very* slowly, until my
brother would make a "threatening" gesture (like turning his head,
talking, or any other normal movement) at which point Moolgi would
rununder the futon. This graduated to apoint where he would move up to
Shawn, sniff him, and then run around the futon, through the kitchen and
do the same thing from the other side of the sofa. He did this for about
30 minutes.

Then my mom and Gen's maid of honor showed up. My mom took one look at
Moogli and made the following comment: That dog thinks he's a person. He
grumbles when you wake him up. Throws little temper tantrums (growling
and stomping his front feet), and sighs heavily when you don't let him
sleep.

The day of the wedding, I dropped Moogli off at Gen's parents place.
They kindly offered to take care of him 'till the next day. We dropped
him off, and the playing together of the little dogs started. Moogli's
mom (1/2 schih-tzu, 1/2 min schnauzer) is a little bit more solidly
built than Moolgi. She is 12 lbs (10 for Moogli) and has legs that are a
bit shorter. From reports from Gen's parents, they played more or less
non-stop for the next 24 hours. Mostly wrestling, although Moogli is
learning how to play tug with Cocotte lately. Unformtunately, his
canines are kinda small, so he can't get the best grip possible on
whatever they are pulling with. he also has somehow decided that when he
is pulling on something, it is a good idea to put his paw on top of what
is being pulled on. This gives him only 3 feet to use, so he loses most
of the time. But it looks like he is getting better at it. Gen's parents
have a deck and a pool in their backyard. This gives the dogs lots of
room to run at top speed. Cocotte usually grabs something in her mouth
and tries to get Moogli to play tug with her. Once that happens, they go
tearing off around the pool at full speed, as fast as their little legs
can take them. Moogli tends to bark at one corner of the "circuit", so
it provides a lot of laughs. The circuit occasionally goes off-course,
involving a mad dash through deck-chairs, people legs and flower beds.
Lots of fun is had by all, resulting in two very happy (and tired) dogs
after a couple of hours. Of course, in addition to the running and
wrestling, there is sometimes some quiet wandering around, communal
pruning of the plants. When we showed up Sunday afternoon, and rang the
doorbell, both dogs were apparantly taking a nap on Gen's dad. Cocotte
on the legs (her preferred spot) and Moogli on the stomach/chest (his
preferred spot). Both dogs came to the door and looked at the door, and
you could see that they are related. Same body posture.

Then, after the wedding, Moogli came home for one night, and then went
back on vacation for 2 days while we went to Montreal for a
mini-honeymoon. Moogli spent the next two days (monday morning to
wednesday evening) with his mom. Despite the fact that, at home, he
sleeps on the bed at night, he had no problems adapting to the crate at
night. (he has one that he spends the day in, which we just moved from
our apartment to their house). During the day, they played more or less
non-stop, although they did take frequent naps. Cocotte would go into
her crate for a nap (she sleeps there every night), and Moogli would
sleep in front of it.

Moogli is a budding acrobatist (acrobaticist??). I have only seen it a
couple of times, and hope it hapopens more so I can capture it on film.
Anyways, there is this one bush that he does this on. The bush is on his
right, and he lifts his back leg to go to the bathroom. I can see that
he is trying *really* hard to get it up as high as possible. The last 2
or 3 times, he has managed to pop his *other* back leg up and goes to
the bathroom in a *front-paw-stand*.

Moogli has (re)-discovered that he is, in fact, a male dog. Saturday, he
spent about an hour trying to mount Cocotte. I am not sure if he is
trying to have sex with her (she is spayed) or if it is some attempt at
dominance over her (he has been getting more assertive with her over the
past month or so) but it was pretty funny to watch. When any other dog
does it, Cocotte sees it as *a very bad thing* and turns and snaps at
them. With Moogli, she hasn't done it yet. She just turns in circles,
trying to keep him from completely mounting.

The race circuit on Saturday expanded to include some cross-people work.
gen and I had placed lawn-chairs on the cement walkway to the pool to
catch some rays. The dogs started chasing each other again. After about
10 minutes of running around the pool and around us, , Moogli decided to
take a short cut in his chase. He ran by, jumped up onto me, launched
himself off of my legs, jumped over Gen (about 3 feet to the other side
of her chair) landed on the grass and kept running.
