Default Insulation for an Eskimo?

Greetings,

I have a Samoyed. (She's not %100--her mother is, but the father is
unidentified), however she has the typically dense coat of hair for the
breed and seems completely unconcerned with sub 20 temps. Nevertheless, I
built her house with 4" of fiberglass insulation in walls, floor and
ceiling. There is also an offset double entrance covered by a heavy blanket
"door" to block the wind from entering her sleeping area. I live in
northern West Virginia. The winters here rarely reach into the single
digits for any length of time. For summer living, I open rear and side
vents, and her house has a roofed porch under thick shade trees.

People have laughed at me for going a little "overboard" in building this
kind of dwelling for an "Eskimo" dog. I don't think so, besides, I enjoyed
it.

People used to laugh at me for going overboard with my dogs, but
now they welcome their dogs into their homes, too.

laughing isn't *quite* the word i'd use.

my dog house has *three* bedrooms! it's fully insulated and
has a front door and a side door, along with a deck and a 1.5
acre fenced yard. it has windows and is even heated and
partially air conditioned! it has running hot and cold water,
electricity, and is carpeted. the dogs love the couch i got
for them, as well as the bed. i'm so crazy about my dogs that
i even hung paintings on the walls so they'll have something
to look at! (okay, that last part was for me, but i'm sure
the dogs don't mind.)

Actually, I know a dog who used to live much like yours. Except her dog
house was fancier. It had heating and air conditioning, and she had her
own TV. When she was about a year old, her people realized that this is
no life for a dog, and found her an adoptive home (that's how I knew
her, through her adoptive family). Two weeks later, the former owners
came over to meet the dog and to make sure that she was happy. She
didn't treat them any differently from the way does strangers.

The dog is very happy in her new home, sharing the same living quarters
as her humans.
