Worse even if the NEW CHESADOR....: ( Half Chessie Half Lab. We do NOT NEED a Chessie That ACTS Like a LAB. Nor a dog that looks like a Lab but acts like a Chessie! I'm seeing a LOT of Labradoodles in the last couple of years- and am starting to see "Goldendoodles" as well- and the temperaments are all over the map. Some are nice dogs; others combine such things as the Poodle tendency to bully, nip, and harass other dogs with the insensitivity and hardheadedness of a poorly-bred Lab. And the last two "Goldendoodles" I've met- both puppies, from two different "breeders"- sure as hell looked to me like they were candidates for hip surgery before the age of one. I'm betting the Golden half of the equation was your typical BYB/puppymill dysplastic mess. |

Interesting. I heard that the origin of the "labradoodle" was Seeing Eye foundations that were experimenting with this cross to create a "hypo-allergenic" seeing eye dog and that one of the traits of this crossing was a dog who does not shed or create much dander. I've heard that as well, and I've read or heard that it took 2-3 generations to "fix" the low dander aspect. Of course, the current problem is that "breeders" looking for a quick buck have jumped on latest fad bandwagon, and are sticking together any old Poodle and Lab. |
