Default Parathyroid Psychiatric Morbidity

On 29 Aug 2003 19:13:30 -0700 Tallgrass whittled these words:
So the question becomes.....does it work the same in dogs??????

Not sure what you are responding to but my dog Oso has
hypoparathydroidism probably connected to thyroid removal. The first
symptoms that his blood calcium levels are off are behaviorial. In his
case it is digging and face rubbing. When he needs an adjustment in his
medication he will "dig" into beds, cushions or whatever. Its probably a
reaction to that kind of itchy prickly feeling of being just a little
"off" but without a definite focus. His situation was a very strong
reminder to me to always check for physical problems when there is a
sudden change in behavior. Fortunately the medication seems reasonably
effective.
