Greetings,

I have a cocker who is recovering from a small staph infection on
his jowl. Is there any reason not to bathe him? And if so, is there
any shampoo, conditioner etc. a groomer is likely to use that would
be beneficial or undesirable?

Discuss with your vet. There are appropriate shampoos that will assist
in keeping the open wound clean and act somewhat as antiseptics. Often
vets prescribe baths with these types of shampoos on a scheduled basis,
or have you scrube the wound with them daily. Been there, done that.
Nolvasan and Betadine/Iodine shampoos are two I have used on vet
recommendation.
