Hi Guys,
I'm sure this has been posted numerous times, but I really need some help here. My dog growls whenever you give him a bone and go near him... I realize this is their instinct, but I've been around dogs that don't demonstrate this behaviour. It's to the point where he will growl at you if you bring him inside and his bone is still outside, and it's really hard to trust an animal that can turn on you that quickly. Is there anything that my family and I can do to stop this behaviour? A colleague of mine told me to slap the dog and take it away so that it knows I'm the alpha-male, but wouldn't that just lead to more aggression? ANY suggestions are welcome and will be appreciated.... I have a 9 month old lab/collie cross, normally very docile, but starting to get much more aggressive. Thanks in advance. |

He needs to learn that you taking his bone means good things are coming.
Take some really stinky and good treats. Walk past him, drop one in his lap while he has the bone. He'll start looking foreward to you walking past. Then start stopping, and slowly work your way towards touching and then taking the bone. It also helps to have everyone in the house doing this. -- Emily Carroll *Dumpee Kittens Available in SE/Mid Michigan* *E-mail for details* Website: www.geocities.com/diamonds_in_her_eyes "Kev" wrote in message news:X8kib.10735$Pe5.3977@edtnps84... Its called possession-aggression. Do *not* use force with the dog unless
you want to provoke the dog into biting you and then having it put to sleep for doing so. Here's some info on possession aggression: http://www.doglogic.com/possess.htm -- Tara |

Hi kev,
Ignore your colleague , your likely to get bitten if you slap your dog. If the dog doesn't improve the simplist thing to do is not give him bones. -- Alison "Kev" wrote in message news:X8kib.10735$Pe5.3977@edtnps84...
