Most however you'll find are NOT.

Where are you getting your statistics?

I actually recommend pit bulls as good "kid dogs." They're naturally friendly
to people and will put up with a lot of nonsense from kids.

ANY dog who isn't socialized is a danger. The only reason pit bulls are more
of a danger when they are mishandled is because they have very strong jaws, and
they hang on when they bite.

We have more pit bulls coming into the store than any other breed. I have yet
to meet one who isn't very friendly. Of course they're out there - they're the
ones you read about. They're usually treated as lawn ornaments, or actively
trained as a protection dog. An unsocialized, untrained, or badly treated pit
bull is a loaded weapon in a child's hand. But then again, so is any
unsocialized or badly treated dog.

I'm much more cautious about approaching a GSD or a cocker spaniel than I am a
pit bull. Of course, every dog's an individual, but those two breeds are
generally far more likely to bite a strange human.

Pit bulls are naturally DOG aggressive, not people aggressive. And even then,
it seems to be more the e*ception than the rule to have a well-socialized pit
bull turn on other dogs.
