Default Sick Basset Hound

My girlfriends family has a 2 year old Basset hound who is gravely ill
and the vets are stumped.

For over two weeks now, Missy (the Basset) has been had trouble
passing food through body. She was eating, and then every hour or so
would try to deficate. All that would come out was a light stream of
blood. She would try in vain but nothing.

She has lost a lot of weight, and now appears to be on the verge of
death.

The vet's have given her anit-biotics and flatworm treatments and or
now at a loss as to what do...they could do surgery but she probably
wouldn't make it through.

They are treating another dog with similar symptoms.

Any help would truely be appreciated!

Thanks,
Darren F.

.........Weird. I'm assuming they did a full blood panel - CBC and
chemistry? I had a dog that had bouts of diarrhea with shooting blood and
months later she was finally diagnosed with Addison's disease. Did they
also check GI tract with ultrasound? Does this dog eat things like socks
or pantyhose? Have they done any fecal cultures? Sounds like this pup
needs a more aggressive vet. Do her dog and the other dog have anything in
common?

Hoping you get some answers. You could try posting in alt.med.vet., but I
think you'd need to post more facts like abnormals in blood tests.

Best of luck to the pup

Thanks so much for the responses. Unfortunately, her condition
deteriorated to a such a level, that about the time I posted this
message, they finally had to put her to sleep.

Yes, they had run every test they could think of, and even seen some
type of specialist.

They live in Texarkana.

Thanks again.

...........I'm so sorry. I hope they allowed a necropsy to help the other
dog. Everything a vet can learn about a mysterious condition may help some
other dog.
