Default Dog Navel

Hi,
I was grooming my dog (collie) recently and noticed a slit on his
chest / stomach about .75 - 1" in length. It looks like a fold in his
skin. It's located just below his ribcage and dead center. At first I
assumed it must be his navel (though I can't recall seeing it before
and he's 9 yrs. old) but as I've looked up info on canine navels, it
sems that they tend to look like scars (I'm assuming a single closed
scar).

Any guesses?

Please e-mail response to
Thanks,
Jim

The dog's navel may not be really visible, but you can feel it as a
slight knot in the midline of the abdomen about halfway between the "y"
of the rib cage and the front section of the pubic bone. Like ours, it
tends to be round or oval in shape. Unless there is a hernia there, it
will be flat.
