Have you tried Revolution or the Advantix, yet? I prefer the Revolution as
it is one step for everything, but still have to use a Preventix collar in
spring and early summer (may get another for this fall, if we continue to
get large amounts of rain on a regular basis - SE Oklahoma.)

Was wondering how the Advantix does, for next Spring.

I'm sure that all of this contributes. When we first started using
Frontline, I didn't realize that it was not 100% effective. So, I
didn't go over Khan that closely, until I started finding engorged
ticks, and found out about the loop holes after talking to the
manufacturer and vet. Since then, I've been doing a much better job of
going over him, but it is VERY hard to find anything on such a densely
coated dog. When Khan stayed with our friends while we were away, they
could find no ticks on him, although they spent considerable amount of
time poking around. I found 3 on him, within two days of our return.
Partly, it is because I know where to look - face and legs are the most
common targets - and partly it is because I'm used to looking for
needles in the haystack.

My vet has assured me it is OK to use Frontline along with amitraz
collar in my area that has very mutant ticks. And there are years
in which Frontline does not work at all. In fact it has been only 20
days since I put it on all the dogs and I have found two ticks
attached to little Reznor. And he is far from big dog. Especially
right now. Though I haven't invested in the collars this
year because for some reason it hasn't been bad. Last year
was extremely bad. My Vet says that Frontline is a far
cry from 100% effective. Not even 95% here in Texas
where the more deadly tick disease erhlichea is very
prevalent.

I just found on my dog at least 3 dozen tiny parasites.

Ok, I just looked down on the wood floor for something I dropped and
saw all these tiny spots of blood. Then I realized these foul bugs
(likely baby/seed ticks) have been falling off Orson and are still
alive. And crawling around on my floor. And presumably in my bed,
where he was this morning, and the carpet in the entire house. And on
the sofa. And, and, and.

Excuse me, but ******.

No excuses necessary. **** is right.

Cate said in rec.pets.dogs.behavior:

In the house, eggs are laid
around baseboards, window and door casings, curtains,
furniture, and edges of rugs. The egg-laying females are
often seen going up walls to lay eggs. The eggs hatch in
19-60 days into a six-legged, small seed tick.

Spread some borax around (good ol' 20 Mule Team Borax), working
it into all the cracks and walking it into the carpet. Vacuum
it up tomorrow morning.

Apparently, this desiccates soft-skinned buggies and fresh bug
eggs. It worked for me when Murphy got an infestation of lice.

Thanks. I'm calling the exterminator right now.

Make sure they do the outside as well. Also any bedding
and make sure they will come back in 30 days or less
and then another treatment after that. Ticks are often
very hard to get rid of.

Thanks. I'll check to see if borax is ok around cats.

I'm waiting for the exterminator to call me back, but I'm more apt to have
professionals handle it only because we're not fully unpacked from our move.
I can't even reach all the carpet right now without unpacking the rest of
our boxes.

tick bloom.

That phrase just skeeves me out.

Thought: I've got to put Orson in the car like this. Which means I *have* to
get a handheld vacuum for the car.
