Hoping someone out there can help me to identify the breed mix for my
new adopted little doggie. His name is Scooter and he is somewhere between 1 and 2 years old as best we know. He weighs 11.5 pounds, is extremely bright and alert. Rarely barks and is very friendly. I have placed some pics on my company web site. http://www.webtfg.com/scooter.htm Thanks to all who took the time to look and respond! George |

Not sure about what he's mixed with, likely Terrier as someone else pointed out. He has the length of a Min. Dachshund and the coat can go either way. I've seen Miniatures with broken/mixed coats. They usually come out somewhat wavy and less silky than the longhaired or smoothe counterparts. -- Tara |

He's cute! Looks like some kind of terrier or schnauzer mix to me. Dogstar716 My Dogs: http://hometown.aol.com/dogstar716/TheBoys.html |

Is the tail cut away, or does it just look short in pics? If there is no tail, at least the dam is most probably a purebred (or nearly purebred) from a breed which is docked over there. Not a Dachshund cross, they don't come with real legs. Not a Border Terrier x Russell cross, they don't come in black but have always some tan too and most often white at least on chest and paws. I'm curious about your statement regarding the dog not being a Dachshund cross due to its legs. I've seen Min. Dachshund crosses that were pretty tall. One that specifically comes to mind is a Sheltie x Min. Dachshund. The dog has the height of the Sheltie, maybe an inch on the short side, the coat of the Sheltie, but the snout length & body length of the Min. Dachshund. -- Tara |

: I'm curious about your statement regarding the dog not being a Dachshund cross due to its legs. Short legs are a dominant trait, and all mutts I have seen with one short- legged and purebred parent have been also short-legged. Some stumpy-legs breeds like Jack Russell are not always homozygous for short legs and can get long-legged offspring, but older and more stabilized breeds like Dachsies, Corgis and Bassets seem to be always homozygous for short legs. I guess that homozygotes have on average slithly shorter legs than heterozygotes, and so it is fairly easy to select for more homozygousness with this trait. If I saw a Dachsie cross with normal or even nearly normal legs, I'd require some proof of the parentage before believeing it. Liisa |

I agree with Liisa. I had a rescue Border Terrier/Dachshund (probably
standard, long coat) that had somewhat longer but still short legs, and still had the Queen Anne front.... Also had the long body. Funny looking little monster child.... natural comedienne. Definitely no Border Terrier. Probably no JRT. Probably Scottish Terrier and ?????. Jo Wolf Martinez, Georgia |
