What dog breed would be good for a fictional sleuth? by
STJensen
I'm writing a mystery and am considering giving the sleuth a dog
companion. The private detective works solo and I thought a dog
companion would be a good idea for him.
He travels all over the world solving crimes and stays as a guest in
the luxurious private homes of his clients ... so no...

My wife and I are looking to get a Beagle and before we subject our
two cats to this nightmare we where wondering how well Beagles usually

is it ok to sleep with dogs by
pig
myself and my wife always sleep next to our dog, he has his own bed next to
ours which he sometimes uses, but often jumps under the covers of our bed
in the early morning for warmth. Is this normal? he's a very clean dog. how
many people here sleep with their dogs?
Sometimes i worry about him...

I never expected to be so unwelcome by
Chanzilla
I've been absent from this group due to an unfortunate avalanche of
personal issues, but from the tone of responses, I take it I'm not
welcome.
Yes, I'm trying to put together a website for dogs. Yes, I came here
asking for help because I thought it would be a good idea. I love my
dog, it's an...

Ping: Sionnach--NADAC rule ? by
Robin Nuttall
Okay, I have a question about TIR in NADAC. I have a friend who is
thinking of entering her young green dog at a trial. The question is, if
you are schooling in the ring, can you bring a toy in? I know, of
course, that you can't if you expect to Q. He's got a load of drive and
intensity at practice...

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - All dogs go to heaven. And the ones from West

Rant about national breed clubs by
Tee
In doing some window shopping via national breed clubs I'm finding more and
more of them are demanding you send money to them in order to find out who
their member breeders are. IMO that's stepping way over the line and I
think its unethical.
I can be heard to say at least once a year that...

Breeders who advertise in paper by
bettyjean
I was surfing the net and came across this forum.
I have been breeding German Shepherds now for over 12 years.
I find it offensive that most articals I read state that anyone who has
to advertise in the paper
are back yard breeders or to stay away from them.
It takes time to get established as a...

BSL - 75 Breeds Listed (Even Goldens!) by

You may have seen this before, but I thought it would be good to post it
here. I was surprised to see some of the breeds, such as Golden Retriever,
Lab, and Airedale. So, from now on, Muttley is just a Mutt!

Chihuahuas: are males better pets than females? by
[email protected]
I am going to get a Chihuahua puppy after the new year. An AKC
compliant breeder has informed me that males tend to be better pets
than females, because they are hormonal and possessive. Males are also
cheaper, so she is not steering me towards a more expensive pup.
Any comments on this? Are male...

Something messed up about dog show people by
Alton
Seeing this post Macy's Parade dog show, it reminds me that there's
something very strange about the psychology of dog/cat show people.
The control-freakism of fixation on the physical form, stance and
movement of an animal.
They seem to be first cousins to the people who gussie up...

Scariest LOOKING breeds, public perception? by
[email protected]
Does anyone know if there have been any studies/polls that measure what
the "general public" thinks of as a "scary" dog?
I'm ruling out the most obvious that I 'hear' about (Pit Bulls,
Dobermans, and Rottweilers) for the purposes of this post.
In the future (next year or so) I want to add another...

Purebred or Mongrel? by
John Davidson
I'm thinking of getting a dog, a medium sized one -- maybe a German
Shepherd or a Lab. Should I be looking at a purebred or a mongrel?
Are there any pros or cons one way or the other? (There are no small
children in the house, if that makes a difference). Thanks.

Illegal grooming at Westminster by

Not sure how they "get away" with it. I am watching TV now --part 1 of
the show. I guess all the rules are made to be broken! Sorry, I don't
mean to sound flippant, but the shows are obviously getting too big to
supervise all of the pre-show activity. ~~~~ I wanted to ask if

Do you think a setter would do? by

Hi folks,
First if I may introduce myself. My name is Alice and I am considering

to run them on. Now I'm living in an apartment so I need a dog who's going
to be QUIET. Of course she will not be confined to the house,...

BIS Westminster--the GSP by
Robin Nuttall
I admit that I think the Best lineup this year was stronger than it has
been in a number of years. There were a number of dogs I really liked
going in--the Bloodhound who won in FL, the Pyr, the Tibbie. Didn't
really think about the GSP. BC was eh--not my kind of dog. I just don't
get Pekes--it...
