While I'm He Pitt Bull Guarding House by Beth In Alaska
My friends pitt is a friendly lap dog in the typical pitt way but has recently become protective of his home, barking and growling at noises. Someone entered unannounced and he came flying down the hall barking and growling and ended up biting the visitor on the arm. Obviously this is VERY...

[OT] - Lines by Marcel Beaudoin
Lines. What do they mean, and how do they affect your life. One horizontal one is used as a dash or a minus sign. They affect your life a lot when you are learning math or grammar. One vertical line is used a lot in programming and other math areas. You wait in lines all the time, at the bank,...

Training Collar for a BIG Dog by Lazy Senior
I have a high energy Black Lab - age almost 4 years For the last 2 and half years I have been using a Innotek SD 100 electronic collar. This collar has been nothing but trouble - had to replace the entire units after 11 months. The transmitter on the second unit lasted 7 months before the #4 button...

Vick's dogs by pfoley
I heard on the news tonight that the dogs belonging to Vick will be going to a sanctuary to learn how to play with toys and become socialized, etc. It was also mentioned that Vicks donated 1 million dollars to the care of the dogs for the rest of their lives. I had not heard that before, but it...

One more thing the trainer said by White Monkey
So far so good here, we're getting Saskia out a lot more, playing ball and things more instead of just taking her to places where she can run and play with other dogs, working more on reinforcing basic obedience, making sure she sees the baby as a positive influence ("Look, Saskia, Walter's...

the one-dog two-dog dilemma by Beth In Alaska
I'm really torn about getting another dog. Life is easier with one, but I'm thinking its better for Tok to have company when we work. Whats your opinion? And I'm considerinng putting out on the alaska dog people list to "borrow" a dog for a week and see how Tok feels. Is this stupid?

Having started one argument .... by Chris
might as well start another. Drove up and down the California coast today, expecting Gala to be Mac. A friend commented on this: Maybe that's one thing the purebred people have as an advantage. They just get another Corgi, or another Lab, or another Boxer and there are always breed...

Muttley: Now a question of Life or Death by Paul E. Schoen
Hello everyone: If you have followed some of my posts, you know something about the ongoing story of Muttley, the large GSD/Chow dog I have been trying to adopt or place in a better home. I will add a bit more history later in this post. Last Tuesday, toward the end of Janet's obedience class,...

Spayed dog - strange behavior by [email protected]
My daughters dog was spayed 4 days ago and seemed to be having hot flashes yesterday and today is “burying” babies and whining. The vet said hormone change hasn’t happened yet and to take her for a walk. The walk seemed to help. The chewy pain pills the vet gave them the dog will not take.

Best dog and water resistant flooring? by Harry Muscle
I'm looking for opinions on what kind of floor to install in our new place. We have a dog and a fish tank, so I'm looking for options that would stand up to dog claws, possible dog mistakes, and minor (sometimes major) spilling of water from the fish tank. We've had real hardwood before (finished...

attitudes on dogs off the leash in various cultures. by gswork
i had some time in spain recently and one thing i noticed, at least in the town in was in, was that many more dogs were off the leash than you might find in a typical US town, or UK or North Europe. i'd take a guess that about half the dogs i saw were off leash. its not a proper study, just...

Muttley and the Power Jungle (New pix) by Paul E. Schoen
Late Wednesday afternoon a big thunderstorm rolled through, with lots of rain, so I turned off the computer, and soon after, the power went out. The BGE crews "got on it" and I heard chainsaws in the distance. Muttley and I walked up the street to investigate, but the problem seemed to be up on...
