the one-dog two-dog dilemma by Beth In Alaska
I'm really torn about getting another dog. Life is easier with one, but I'm thinking its better for Tok to have company when we work. Whats your opinion? And I'm considerinng putting out on the alaska dog people list to "borrow" a dog for a week and see how Tok feels. Is this stupid?

Not another one! by Paula
I now have a boxer living at my house temporarily. She showed up at the middle school (yes, the same one the cat showed up at before Christmas --- it is between two pretty big developments and has kids with food). She looks like she is not fully grown, but she has obviously been nursing in the...

Blade/BLOAT/Stomach torsion:(((( by Gwen Watson
Blade almost died Saturday/Sunday night/morning. He had BLOAT! He was fine all day Saturday. Did NOT overeat nor did he romp around much at all Saturday. Around 10:15 he started acting weird like diarhea or upset stomach which he has had often enough in his life so I didn't think much of it until...

Read this, your freedom may depend on it! by Gary Stollman
am the person who pulled a toy gun on TV anchorman David Horowitz in August of 1987 and forced him to read on the air a statement about how the CIA and alien beings had replaced my family and friends with clones. I am here now to explain to you how I came to this conclusion, and the events that...

Pit Bull Ban by Lemony Fresh
This story is taken from my local daily paper. The one thing about the whole pit bull controversey that stands out to me is this: it seems that either pit bull owners are very responsible, committed or they are ignorant, abusive idiots. I'm pretty ambivalent about the ban, having narrowly...

OT - possibly - dumb question - likely! by Tim Knight
Hi, Not really a behaviour question. My puppy likely has worms. Although we purchased him from a reputable pet store, and he was treated for worms, we found what looks very much like a round worm near his bed. This will be confirmed tomorrow after a trip to the vet. I was wondering if there was any...

Bark collar vs ? for growling? by Steve Bukosky
The situation is our Siberian Husky who otherwise well behaved, likes to wrestle with some dogs when visiting the dog park. Usually it is good natured but I'd like to minimize this activity. The most annoying thing my Husky does when he wrestles is that he likes to growl. Is a bark collar...

Food Aggression Test -- Fair or Not??? by Charlie Wilkes
I have been watching Animal Cops on Animal Planet, and one chronic problem they have is with pit bulls hauled in from fight rings etc. Most of the dogs are lovable beasts who are only too happy to be in better hands. But a few have temperament issues. When determining if these dogs are safe to be...

Muttley and the Power Jungle (New pix) by Paul E. Schoen
Late Wednesday afternoon a big thunderstorm rolled through, with lots of rain, so I turned off the computer, and soon after, the power went out. The BGE crews "got on it" and I heard chainsaws in the distance. Muttley and I walked up the street to investigate, but the problem seemed to be up on...

One more thing the trainer said by White Monkey
So far so good here, we're getting Saskia out a lot more, playing ball and things more instead of just taking her to places where she can run and play with other dogs, working more on reinforcing basic obedience, making sure she sees the baby as a positive influence ("Look, Saskia, Walter's...

Weird phone call--right advice? by KrisHur
Looking for some hand-holding here--did I do right? I received an interesting phone call. I organized our club's ATTS temperament test and one of the local rottie clubs referred to me a woman with a rottie pup who's attacking her and her family. She's had GSD's in the past and was certain this...

What does "bupkis" really mean by [email protected]
When shelly reproached me that certain people in this group were offended by my posts, I told her that I had no respect for people who were offended by the truth. That all that those offended people had been doing was to scream that Jerry lied, without actually bringing any proof that what he said...

You learn something new everyday by Suja
I just wish it hadn't come at 5:45 in the morning, or in the way that it did. It wasn't that long ago that I posted about how Khan has never thrown up before. Well, now he has. The good news is, Khan signals to let us know that he needs to puke. The bad news is that we weren't nearly quick...

Disgusting treat for Muttley by Paul E. Schoen
This morning, on his regular walk, Muttley found what appeared to be the leg of a large bird like a buzzard, complete with orange talons. He did not want to let it go, and he dropped it once, but I could not get him away quickly enough to avoid his grabbing it again. As he walked, he chewed on...

Flowers or Bow Ties? by Child
Dillemma: wedding plans moving forward. Friends are criticizing my plans to make my dogs wear flowers around their necks for the ceremony. Criticism is generally about them being BOYS, not about how its cruel to make a dog wear a flowery collar for 10 minutes. Bow ties were suggested...

What would you do? by Bethgsd
