Prong collars ? by Christopher
Sorry, pardon the ignorance, but I was wondering what the collars are for that have prongs in them. They look like they would hurt if the dog pulled or something... Many thanks, Chris

My lab seems to get targeted at the dog park by [email protected]
I have a black lab, Murphy, who is almost 2 years old. I exercise him daily at the dog park since I live in a city where dogs area only allowed in dog parks and I do not have a safe yard to play fetch in. Murph is pretty well trained. He listens well, heels offlead, can do remote sits, on the fly...

Tragic Situation by Tee
This morning my husband found one of his best friends dead in his home. Scott & Amie had gone to this guy's house Saturday night for the big Clemson v. Carolina game and all was well. Sometime between 9pm Saturday night and early Sunday morning, the man's boarder (my husband's newest employee)...

Need Rescue Help in North Carolina--Urgent by Kevin Michael Vail
Yesterday there was a stray dog in David's yard, and since he didn't know if the dog was friendly or not he didn't want to let his dogs out, and in fact he couldn't really get out himself without either letting them out or the other dog in. He called animal control who initially said they...

Man kills 11-year old daughter's puppy, little remorse by Thomas Murphy
For the last 5 years my youngest daughter (I have an 11 year-old, and a 14 year-old daughter) was wanted a puppy, either a black lab or a golden retriever. Because I was in the Air Force and housing was cramped without adequate space for the animal, I promised her that I would get her a puppy upon...

Intangible DON'T ALLOW THAT by diddy[_2_]
I'm trying to explain "Don't allow that" to Reka's co-owner. who has no concept of the theory. It's bad wording. It's not even a theory.. it just "IS" Reka will sense her insecurities and lock up. The co-owner locks up, and tries to analyse Reka's problems. She's convinced that Reka needs...

Letting Go by Sharonpo
Tomorrow we're saying goodbye to our precious Sydney, who has been a member of the family for 14 years. He has kidney failure, and the vet is willing to attempt to prolong his life; but, the prognosis is, of course, bleak. We have never had to do this before and are terrified for him. Is there...

how to choose a dog? by Ruthie
Hi - I've been reading along for a while and hope you all can help. The regulars here seem to know so much about training and temperament and dogs in general. I've rejoiced at Tuck's recovery, been amazed at the cool stuff diddy teaches him, marveled at gorgeous photos and victories, and cried...

OT--Now if I could only find... by Marie
....suitable chew toys for my babies :-) It's almost midnight and the Tempra is finally kicking in for Chris--he has stopped screaming and is finally falling asleep. Of course getting him to sleep would be easier if I didn't have my annual-fall-allergies-hacking-cough that keeps waking him up. I...

Housebreaking Problem by WVMontani
We have a 9-month-old Shetland Sheepdog that has learned to pee everywhere but outdoors, preferring instead to pee in her crate. My wife and I have spent countless hours with trying to train her. W have tried crate training, rewarding with treats, taking her out with the other dog hoping she will...

APBT behavior issues by John Oliver
A friend of mine has a female APBT mix, about three years old. She got Cassie from the previous owner, who apparently would be beaten up by her boyfriend and that would make the dogs start fighting. Anyway... she's a very sweet dog, except for one major problem. Every once in a great while, she...

A battle is brewing in our shelter about Sue Sternberg's temperament testing. I went to her site to learn more, and found this interesting page: http://www.suesternberg.com/00shelter.html (Be brave with your guesses. Your score can't possibly be lower than mine.)
