Define "Rescue" for me.. I'm from mars.. by Mike D
What exactly is the difference between a rescue society dedicated to a specific breed of canine and me who adopts from shelters? What is it that makes adopters of purebreds "rescuers" ? My (3) dogs come EXCLUSIVELY from shelters. Are my dogs not "rescued" ? Or is it just snobbery about purebreds?

"Are Our Pets Worth It?" by Melinda Shore
There's a nice article yesterday's Washington Post on thinking about expensive medical treatments for dogs. A particularly nice quote: "A dog is a dog, which turns out to be more than enough." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A30131-2004Aug24.html -- Melinda Shore - Software longa,...

Agressive dog by [email protected]
Hi We rescued a young (11months old) female rottweiler/beauceron cross bred, about two months ago from our local dog pound. We chose her because at the pound when all mayhem was breaking out she stayed very calm. She is very gentle and is great with our young children (1 year and two years)....

Teaching "heel" and what it means by Paul E. Schoen[_4_]
There may be some tips and methods to teach a dog to "heel" in the other thread but it has gone so far off-topic and has so many exchanges of unpleasantries that I think a new topic is appropriate. I posted some links to videos there and I'll repeat them he Videos from "Amazing Dog Training...

"Idiots Guide to PBs"?? by Chris Williams
What generalizations are safe to make about Pitties? Is there a site or pamphlet that encapsulates information you'd deem accurate? It's my job to 'promote' volunteers from walking easy dogs to stronger ones, which includes, of course, the PBs. It would be handy to have something brief to clue...

Puppy Will ONLY Eat Chicken by Ryan
Hi, About a week ago we got an 8 week old Bichon Frise. He is adorable and full of energy, but his eating habits are troubling us. When he got here, he went two days without eating anything. The breader has given us some of the dry food she had been using and told us to continue using it and...

Birthday Girl, New Golden Retriever by Manadero
Here is the editorial piece published today. Quite good I think. The HS can hide behind "policy" if they choose, but there is no excuse for the reprehensible behavior exhibited by the "adopters". I bet the karma for that is quite ugly.. sure glad it's not mine.... And the only way they'd have...
