Gus is not allowed by
Rocky[_2_]
I'm not big on human names for dogs, but sometimes some names
fit. For example, I recently met a big white goofy-friendly
Standard Poodle mix named Dave.
The name works for this dog, he made me think of Kevin Kline in
"Dave."

English Bulldog aggression? by
Rocky[_2_]
A friend's English Bulldog, in the past month, has started
snapping at people and other animals when touched/awoken when
asleep.
Spayed female, 14 months old. So far, she has nipped at a cat
when walked over, nipped at the primary owner when owner was
rolling over in bed, and nipped at a...

Epiphany? by
Suja
We've had a gorgeous boy Plott Hound at the dog park, who when he first
started coming, hadn't been neutered. He is a pretty wild and crazy dog,
which didn't help much with his standings with Khan, who looked upon him
much like a mean old uncle would, never missing an opportunity to chastise
him...

calming games by
McDog
After a long time with an oldster and a couple of middle aged dogs,
two weeks ago I was given a youngster, a very bright stray abandoned
at a gas station. He has the build of a whippet, the head of a hound,
and a curly spitz tail. His ball game playing is almost obsessively
border collie, and he...

Three Dogs a kitten and a litter box by
\(the\)duckster
Dear combined family members,
We have taken in a young male kitten, soon to be fixed, that is adjusting
well with the other three hounds in this house. Right now he mostly lives
in the garage, crated at night, is boxed trained, and really loves though
being in the house in my lap. Right now he's...

games that overexcite dogs by
McDog
This is a question especially for people who live in rural areas, and/
or have a lot of training experience. Toby, a stray mentioned below in
my question on calming games, needs off-leash reliability in the
presence of cats, chickens, sheep, motorcycles, etc. He is skinny
enough to get through...

Cubbe's got day by
Julia Altshuler
If you're a stickler for calendars, I could say that we brought Cubbe
home on October 14, 1998 which would make her gotday tomorrow, but it
was Columbus Day and a Monday, so I think that makes her gotday today.
As near as we can figure, she's 11 years old.
It was Canadian Thanksgiving that night....

Dog Poops in the floor all of the time!! by
[email protected]
Hi everyone. I have a 2 year old male Chinese Crested. I can't get
him to stop pooping in the floor. He sneaks around every time!! He
usually likes to go in my kids bedroom, which is very frustrating,
when I close the door to their rooms he goes in the hallway. If I
gate him off to one room he...

Progress Report by
Shelly
The vet was right! After 48 hours of pred, Harriet's hives are
nearly gone. She still has a few discrete bumps on one side and on
her belly, but they aren't itching her. In fact, for the first time
since early summer, she's not itchy at *all*.
On the down side, I slept in, and she had an...

Conformation, Earthdog, you name it, they had it. Tons of vendors, too.

Toughest Race on Earth by
Shelly
I got a chance to watch it yesterday afternoon. There were little
vignettes about some of the mushers. Lance Mackey talked about his
cancer and nearly dying, and about how he owes his life to his dogs, at
which point, I lost it. The whole show made me weepy, but in a very
good way.
And the...

Old dog, new trick by
Mary Healey[_2_]
Pending AKC yadda-yadda, Duke is now ANZ Pas de Duke, RN! People
*retire* dogs Duke's age (10). And he is, you'll recall, my "young"
dog!
I think this proves several things. First, old dogs *can* learn new
tricks. Second, some judges are incredibly kind in their scoring g.
Third,...

Excessive panting by
kat
I have a vet appointment with another new vet next Thursday. When I took
Shadow to the last (new vet) a couple months ago. I mentioned my concern
with his excessive panting. He asked what I was concerned about and at that
time the only thing I thought it might be was congestive heart failure. ...
