My experiences with finding the right dog by
Rich Spencer
I thought I would post this to see if others are in this same situation
and also to allow those in shelters and rescue societies to know at
least what some of us are thinking.
We recently lost our 9 year old Basset (whom we got from a Basset rescue
group and were very good and helpful) and decided...

Who to contact to report local Humane Society? by
Angela Arnold
Who would I need to contact to report cruel and inhumane teatment of
animals by my local Humane Society?
Their shelter is very small (less than 200 sq. feet. They have
chihuahua puppies mixed in with grown labs. Many dogs and puppies are
severly emanciated, none of the animals have vet care, nor...

SUGGESTIONS for apartment dog by
Rich
We have a small apartment in NYC.
9 to 5 We would take the dog to a business which cares for dogs and has lots
of open space.
We prefer a dog that doesn't shed too much.
The dog should be house trained. Perhaps an older dog without excessive
energy?
I lean toward an older Labrador Retriever.

Need Advice and Help in placing 4 dogs in a no-kill shelter by
Tara O.
Rescues and no-kill shelters are not boarding facilities for people who want
to get rid of their dogs for a while and then retrieve them. If one of them
has aggression issues, the dog will likely be rejected or euthanized after
being admitted. I'd strongly recommend doing spot-visits,...

dogs and young kids by
Support Your Local Community Band
List,
I have consistently advised people against having dogs and small
children at the same time. Of course, I get many replies that "we have
never had a problem" , "our dogs are sweet" "the kids know to leave the dog
alone" and all kinds of other lame rationalizations.

Options for adopting out my dog. by
Chris C.
I have a mixed breed dog, about 5 years old. He has been a wonderful dog
for us, but has shown several instances of aggression - some unprovoked. He
does not respond well to the vet, or being caged. We have a new baby
(common problem here I imagine) and we no longer feel comfortable keeping
him....

Need home in Sacramento CA for Missy by
Robin
Missy is a wonderful 1 1/2 year old golden retriever/shepherd/akita
mix. Her only problem is submissive urination which we can't get
under control because she perceives new hubby as "big dog", causing
more problems in the home. Any leads on finding a good home?

Humane Society, a few questions... by
Marty
Do you think non-euthanizing shelters are more humane than shelters
that euthanize?
Do you think there is adequate space and cleanliness for the animals
kept at local Humane Society shelters?

good "family dog" recommendation by
THW
We are looking to adopt a 2-4 year old medium sized dog from a rescue group.
Most important characteristic we are looking for is a dog that gets along
great with kids, with no aggression whatsoever.
Some folks I know are suggesting we consider English Setters, English
Springer spaniels and...

PETA's Chained Dog Crusade by
[email protected]
Any thoughts here on PETA's latest crusade? I really don't accept the
premise that a dog chained to a cable-run is worse off than a dog in a
pen or a dog in a tiny backyard. My two dog runs are 50' long with a
15' chain and are mulched with wood chips and are under shade trees.
The dogs are...

New - considering rescue / rehomed dog by
Supergoof
Hi there
Firstly, is there a difference between rescue and rehoming/rehousing?
We're trying to get a Newfoundland puppy from a reputable breeder, but if
that's not going to be possible in the next few months we're considering a
rehomed one instead.
We currently have an 11yo speyed female lab...

Questions about unwanted dogs by
Scott T. Jensen
1) What happens to the dogs after they've been killed by the pound?
2) What is currently being done to reduce dogs from being abandoned by their
masters?
I just watched a documentary about dogs and part of it was on the sad fact
that an eighth of all of them are abandoned by their masters and/or...

Several posts had criticized China for killing 50,000 dogs to prevent
rabies.
This prompt me to look at dog killings/getting rid of unwanted dogs
practice in general. Thank to pawinthecity.org, American data is
readily available. Other netters are welcomed to add their inputs

Home inspections? by

My wife and I are trying to adopt a small dog and we're running into a
huge roadblock. Many of the places are asking for a home inspection.
Now, my wife an I really would rather not go through a home
inspection, we don't see the need. We're willing to undergo an
interview process, we have two cats...

aside from filing a report with the police?
