Dog crouches/lies down when meeting other dogs. by
Asbjørn Bjørnstad
Hi,
When my golden retriever meets other dogs, he focus on the other dog
and will lower his body more and more until he finally lies down and
refuse to walk further. Almost look like stalking/herding. He will
then lie like that until the other dog comes over. If the other dog is
passing us, he...

Fun and Games by
Jo Wolf
Last week on the NADOI email group, the obedience instructors were
talking about fun activities for puppies, according to my boss. One
game that came up was interesting.
Using a 12-cup muffin pan, place a smelly treat in each cup and place a
tennis ball on top of each cup. Bring on the puppy...

Stalker pup update by
cshenk
Hi folks!
Last note I posted on Mabel Anne was positive test for cancer and a series
of non-invasive tests to attempt to get an idea of the level but the vet
that we needed wasn't available to read them.
Today we had a booster shot appointment and another check on her ears
(infection slowly...

18months old...still not housebroken!? by
sjmartin
We have an 18 month old goldendoodle. He is still pooping in my house! ARGH! We take him out every 2-3 hours throughout the day, he will do his business outside, gets praised lavishly for it and come back in and poop on the floor. He never pees in the house. WE know if he starts running around he...

Another Fun Activity..... by
Jo Wolf
The AKC has just held it's introductory trials for the new Coursing
Ability Title (CAT). Or "lure coursing for the rest of us." Open to
all breeds and mixes, requires three succesful runs for the title. I
have not yet compared the rules to those for sighthound lure coursing
titles. They're...

UK Bomb sniffer dog dies of broken heart . by
Jo Wolf
_Where the Red Fern Grows_ is fiction. Required reading in 8th grade in
GA..... I"d never heard of it until I moved here....
It's the intensity of the relationship of the Dog to the person or the
Dog to another Dog, plus individual personality of the Dog. Using a
capital letter as emphasis. A...

UK Bomb sniffer dog dies of broken heart . by
Alison[_3_]
I don't know if dogs do die of a broken heart but the whole story is
tragic. :'(
*In life, they were united in their tireless work saving countless British
soldiers in Afghanistan.
In death, they were united in tragedy.
Shortly after Lance Corporal Liam Tasker was killed in a firefight with the...

Strange and Comical Play Behaviors. by
Jo Wolf
I swear that some dogs are frustrated comedians. The other night, I had
all four dogs out on the deck before bedtime. Eugene and Berry were
racing and play-fighting (Gene has a play-fighting "dirty language"
growl/snarl that gets my attention, so I supervise), and apparently this
concerned old...

Obedience - What would you do - The Milgram Experiments by
P E Schoen
As an adjunct to a discussion elsewhere about the mental stability and moral
judgment of the person who brutally euthanized 100 sled dogs, the famous
Milgram Experiments were cited. The results were disturbing, as they
consistently showed that about 2/3 of all subjects would follow orders to...

Whats up with this? by
cshenk
Just checking but the 'Stalker pup' (Mabel Anne) once *out of the home and
at the Vets* evinced something we never trained. At least, nothing directly
(deliberately etc).
If we want her to sit someplace specific, we point at that spot then give
the asl for sit or 'down' or whatever. We'd...

Kiba searching for tennis balls... by
Phyrie[_3_]
I was more than a little disturbed by Schoen's "Get the Bone" training
video, but it did get me thinking. If I was to tape Kiba doing the same
thing, what would it look like? Would he be flinging himself about in
absolute confusion like Muttley, or would he use his (admittedly) little
mind,...
