Urgent, opinions please, dog ate rawhide

Hi,
if anyone is here right now, maybe you could help me out.
I beleive my dog just swallowed a piece of rawhide without chewing it
properly. I'm not sure how big the piece was, it was a little bigger than a
square inch when I looked at her chewing, and a little while later it was
all gone...
So far she has never had a problem with rawhides, but this wasn't the
pressed kind she usually gets. She is a small Belgian Shepherd Tervuren,
about 20kg.
What do you think, should I make her throw up or should I wait and see if it
passes?

My dog, Rusty, loves chewing on rawhides. His favorites are the chips but
also occassionally enjoys the ones with the knots at each end. We try to
watch him closely so that when the rawhide gets small enough (it all fits in
his mouth), we try to take it away, but about once a week, he knows that
we're coming for it and he quickly swallows them. He's never gotten sick or
had any troubles with them because they've been well chewed (although still
rather large) and he always gets a couple drinks afterwards too. I would
just wait and keep your eye on your pup. Let us know what happens!

Shelley & Rusty (who btw is a 14 pound dachshund so they're close to the
same size)

Relax! Once it's past the throat where it could cause choking it's entered
the stomach where those awesome canine digestive juices will take care of
it. You might watch for either constipation or diarrhea.

Thanks, I guess I was just getting a bit overprotective =)
I'll take her out for a walk and see how she acts out there. Yala is 20 kg,
not pounds, so if Rusty can pass rawhide I guess my girl shouldn't have a
big problem either.

Ok, I'll try to relax, thanks =)

Remember, dogs bodies are built differently than humans. Wild and even
domesticated dogs swallow all sorts of thing whole without problems. I'd be
concerned about non-organic things, but even the, rawhide should not be a
problem as long as she did not choke.

Give your dog a lot of bread, preferably soaked in milk. It will help
pad the piece of rawhide as it goes through his system.

BTW, it is NOT true that the dog would not have a problem. Many dogs
wind up with a tear from a ragged piece of bone or rawhide. Vets
perform surgery quite often for this reason.
