Default prey drive !

"culprit" wrote in message ...
it seems my dogs don't know how to apply their drive to actual prey.

this morning, when i let them out for some play time, i heard a big
commotion in the corner of the yard. it seems that the baby quail that
hatched recently have been allowed out of the nest (with mamma to supervise,
of course). there were a whole mess of them, wandering around the yard,
peep peeping, and generally being cute. the dogs glanced over to see what
the noise was, and the quail started frantically waddling towards the
treeline. mamma bird was flitting back and forth, crying her little alarm
cry, and the babes were peeping confusedly.

the dogs looked at the birds, looked back at me, and proceeded to chase each
other around the yard, totally uninterested in the birds.

*sigh*

fierce hunters, they are not.
