Default Constipation in shih tzu

We have a 6 mo old pup and it seems she gets constipated quite a bit. We
have tried a variety of things to help her including giving her baby
prunes in her food and sitz baths to relieve her.

Any suggestions?

thanks Bill

Hello,
Bill, it sounds to me like there is a blockage of some sort. Maybe a
digestive problem. Have you had it to the Vet, yet? Check this site out,
www.caninemedicinechest.com I had some pups with simular problem and they
not only helped me and my pups they taught me alot.
Good Luck,
Tracy

I know that the dog we had in our childhood (a schnauzer/terrier mix - what
a cutie she was!!!) was often constipated and the vet suggested we put in a
Tbsp of Metamucil (is that how you spell that?) in with her food. It worked
wonders and as long as she had that with her food, she was fine. However,
I'm not a vet. I would suggest checking with your vet first.

Forget that seller of nostrums.... Discuss this with your vet, as there
are a number of potential causes.

Some things that have helped Some dogs, under VET care....

Help to increase water consumption by adding water (warm) to the dry dog
food just as being served (doesn't have to soak into the food).

Use a small amount (vet will prescribe the amount) of any of the
Metamucil type supplements. Just sprinkle powder on the food. PLAIN
canned pumpkin will do about the same thing. (Open can, put daily
amounts into individual packs, ice cube trays, etc. freeze... thaw
before feeding)

Colace or Pericolace stool softener added to food. Colace has no added
laxative effect, Pericolace does have a very mild laxative effect.

Increase fats in the food. Vet will suggest appropriate amounts and
types.
