Are you familiar with HSUS and ASPCA?
I am preparing information for an undergraduate paper (unpublished,
just for a class) on organizations in society. I've got calls into both the Humane Society of the United States and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to get the "official" word on the questions below, but would also benefit from hearing the answers from those who are involved in and fairly knowledgeable about the organizations and their work. SO, if you have a few moments and work in the areas of sheltering, protection, rescue or legislation (or just have a familiarity with these organizations), I'd appreciate your input. Your names, e-mail or other identifying information will not be used in my paper (although if you post back to the list of course your name is attached to it). The information is more to get ME thinking in the right vein and uncover any differences between what the organization's goals are and how the public perceives them. Many karma points to those who take a few moments to respond. I'll owe you one! Here we go! 1) HSUS and ASPCA seem to occupy similar space (or domain) in our society. How would you differentiate one from the other, such as if you were to explain them to someone unfamiliar with either? 2) As someone interested in animal welfare, what is the most valuable resource each group provides to you? 3) For each group, are there visible and accessible presences on your local level? If so, can you provide an example? 4) Are there any opportunities for assisting your work that you feel are not currently being provided? (This question is more about forward looking attemps to find opportunity, not an attempt to say that a group is "not doing enough" in the long and wide problems involved.) That's it... thanks!! |
