How did this happen?
I have NEVER seen such a striking coloration difference. It's as if someone
cut off the dog's head and photoshopped it on another dog.

Since the dog is going to be such a small dog, I don't believe for one minute
that it's an akita mix. The Elkhound half is undeniable. What a great
looking dog!

Don't some pointers have the same kind of coloration?

Very striking looking dog. It looks like an Elkhound head stuck on a
completely different body. I can't believe that such a dog would get
overlooked.

And JRTs. Cooper's head is coppery colored, but his body is white,
except for a large copper spot on one flank.

I've never seen ANY dog that was a dark dog until it got to the collar, and
was completely white. (except for the very tip of the tail, which seems to
be above the paint line)
What a remarkable dog

Yep. You can see it in collies, various smaller terriers (Fox, toy fox,
jack/parson, rat, etc.). And I think you can also see it in Akita.
Looking at that dog I don't consider it "small," it looks medium sized.
So I could definitely see Akita mix.

Interesting. In Shelties though, there seems to be a lot more color on the
bodies. And the color deliniation is not as striking.

The coat seems to be silky like a papillion.

A friend was was looking up a few mixes (to compare) and she came across a
Designer Hybrid called a Papimo (http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/p/papimo.htm)
which is an American Eskimo/Papillon cross. She had a horrible, horrible
thought. If someone did cross an Elkhound with an American Eskimo - they
might call it an El Kamino. ACK!
