Default Cushing's Disease In Dogs

Our dog Willow (Pom-some kind of terrier cross) had some abnormal blood
values when she was tested prepatory to having her teeth cleaned and
the vet put her on antibiotics. Most of the blood has cleared up but
one area is still elevated and the vet suspects she may have Cushing's
Disease. She will be having that test after her teeth are cleaned. Does
anyone have any experience with a dog with Cushing's Disease? What does
it mean to the dog? Does it shorten lifespan or make her susceptible to
diseases? Is the treatment expensive and does it cause side effects?

I will go look it up online as well, but I am wondering if anyone here
had experience with a dog with Cushing's.

Thanks,
Linda

If you go to groups.yahoo.com, there is a YahooGroup (mailing list) for
Cushings that you may find helpful...

.............What was elevated - a liver enzyme - ALT? Is she showing any
symptoms of Cushings - excess drinking/peeing, panting, pot belly? There
can be other reasons for elevated liver enzymes.

.........Cushings results from overactive adrenal glands. Therapy consists
of trying to shut the adrenals off without killing them completely, which
results in Addison's disease.

Here's a great starting page:
