The New Science Of Understanding Dog Behavior

This debunks so much crap that I've heard from "trainers" for
years!

That url is too large for my equipment to open at the moment.... I'm
not familiar with Bradshaw's work..... per se. It is necessary to
remember that there are behaviorists and there are behaviorists. And
trainers and trainers. Some are better than others, and some keep up
with the MASSIVE and RAPID changes in knowledge about the psychology of
the dog, and some don't, when it comes to trainers. There are still
trainers out there who insist on "jerk harder" and "no rewards"
training.... and a few who think that the dog succeeds in training
because it "loves the owner".

The changes in what is now known about how the dog's mind functions have
been so radical and rapid that literally anything written about canine
behavior more than 5-6 years ago is now at least 60% outdated unless
it's a verification of earlier work.

Many of us trainers are reading as fast as we can..... but it's
impossible to keep up and modify training programs to fit each new
finding. Most of us in this category could fill volumes with that
outdated material....... And the $$$ cost of the journals and books far
outstirps what most of us can afford to pay....

Then you're way behind in your reading. I read the excerpt from
Bradshaw's books and while I agree with everything he's saying, I
didn't see anything new. Ever read any Dunbar, McConnell, Donaldson,
Reid, Ryan....?
