Default conversations with dogs

the following is an excerpt of a conversation i had with Manu on our walk
this morning.

him: "crunch, crunch"
me: "Manu, you silly dog, are you eating rocks?"
him: innocent look "crunch crunch"
me: shaking head "you *are* part lab, aren't you?"
him: innocent look "do you have any real food? i think this stuff is
kind of stale..."

Sounds familiar .... conversation on my walk this morning with Holly (cocker
spaniel)

me: Holly, why didn't you eat your food this morning?
her: Because there's a really tasty-looking cow pat in the field and I'd

rather wait for that ..... (as Holly zooms head first into the cow pat)

Both are my Chloe... (although she prefers mulch and sticks to rocks,
but will munch on the occasional rock too). And her favorite is
bugs, although mud from the recently receeded flooded backyard is also
a favorite these days.
