I am perfectly willing to offer up the sort of advice I think

over but the shouting.

that makes no sense to me. you had a choice of offering what
you consider to be good, kind help to the OP or chastising
someone else.

The OP had already declared that she was outta here, so that was not a
choice.

now, i'm all for the latter (duh!), but under
the circumstances, i find your decision odd (hi, diddy!).
from where i'm sitting, it looks like you whined about the
crap, which ended up adding to the crap.

Whined? Hardly I've noticed that the tactic of characterizing comments as
"whining" in order to dismiss them has spread from talk radio and the like.
(Another thing to thank the right wing for.)

I would suggest, though, that "help" with a side of attitude
is often no help at all, because it is dismissed.

of course. but that wasn't the only flavor of help the OP
received. several people, myself included (hi, diddy!), gave
her information with nary a smidgen of attitude.

Believe me, I do not underestimate the frustration that
people feel at the same questions coming over and over, the
people asking why they can't do what they like with "their"
property (ie, random breed), the people who think dogs are
fine tied up in the yard, yadda, yadda, yadda.

i think, in this particular case, the frustration stems from
the OP seeming, at least, to understand the the breeder she's
dealing with is not responsible, but still expressing
willingness to deal with her. i don't know about you, but i
can perfectly understand being irritated by someone who asks
for an opinion, appears to generally understand the given
opinion and to agree with it, but who seems bent on
disregarding that opinion. what do you say to someone like
that? clearly, any kind, helpful information has been and
likely will be disregarded. about all you can do, i think, is
beat your head against a brick wall, ignore the poster in the
future or vent your frustration at them. i can't say i would
blame someone for choosing either of the last two options.

I don't *blame* someone for being frustrated and venting it. I'm just saying
that it's not effective. YMMV.

so she did.

so it's not whining. what is it, then? you called it net
nannying. i'm not sure that's any better.

(Another thing to thank the right wing for.)

good lord. crap is crap, no matter who's piloting the manure
spreader. your post struck me as whiny, as in, you were
venting about something that's bugging you that you have no
hope of changing or controlling. i should know, for i am the
Queen of the Whinypantses.

nor is chastising people to play nicely.

okay, from what i can tell, there were 11 nice, kind, helpful
replies to the OP (some were blunt, but not unkind). AFAICT
there was *one* post that might be construed as "not so nice."

it appears to me that Christy's sin was to state that she
thought--based on the 14 day return policy--that the breeder
was "rancid." maybe she could've stated it more nicely, but
really, i can't see that she said anything objectionable.
it's not like she insulted the OP.

or are you referring to the part wherein she stated she
thought the OP was ignorant or stubborn? duh! the woman is
clearly either ignorant or stubborn--both, more like it.

personally, i think Laurie crossed the line into "doesn't
deserve the time of day" when she told Melinda to **** off.
but even after that, Melinda forgave her and people *still*
tried to be helpful. honestly, what more do you want from
people?

I'm sorry to act like a net nanny, but I've just see this pattern over and
over again in this NG over the years, and it gets to me.

Did you read my prior responses? I did pretty much exactly as you suggested,
and it fell on deaf ears. Sometimes folks respond to a nudge, sometimes you
have to hit them with a hammer - this one, I fear, won't respond to anything
less than a Mack truck running her over, and mine is in the shop.

VERY good. It's not that the message is wrong, but the delivery sucks.

Well, you've been a huge educational aid in this thread. Now we all know how
to be a hypocrite! Thanks bunches!!

And I'll stand by that. I find that kind of "return policy" rancid, plain
and simple. It doesn't mean anything, other than if the puppy has contracted
a communicable disease while at the breeders and the symptoms become
apparent within that timeframe - basically, a pet store type of "guarantee."
A true responsible breeder will at least give as long as it takes for
conditions to be diagnosed - 2 years for OFA, lifetime for epilepsy, that
sort of thing, and will give support, either financial or with a replacement
puppy, without requiring return of the beloved pet. But two weeks? Reeks.

Ignorant isn't a dirty word. Uneducable is worse, and I fear the OP falls
into that category. But at any rate, after several posts where I explained
potential problems of BYB dogs, and how to find a responsible breeder
(which were not sugary sweet but certainly polite) it seemed a waste to
continue to pussyfoot around. Anyway, for tact and patience, we have Diane
whatsherface - the role of "bad cop" suits me more.
