Take her to the vet. So then what? The dog talks to the vet? You are so silly. You have no idea if she can tell if her dog is in pain or not. You also have no idea if the vet is savvy enough to know if the dog is in pain or not. If she has things under control there is no need to spend lots of money at a vet's office. Do you get kickbacks from vet visits or what? Char |

OK, I understand what you're saying about her not being in pain. However, I still think a vet visit is a good idea to find out what the lump is. |

If I can't diagnose and treat it myself, and it needs treatment, I take the dog to the vet. I understand that this is a foreign concept for you. I'm sorry that all your vets have apparently been out to get as much money as they could from you - maybe it's because of your attitude - but mine haven't, so I don't have that paranoid streak you have. |

If I can't diagnose and treat it myself, and it needs treatment, I take the dog to the vet. So do most people. However, I think that you aren't able to diagnose much because you assume others can't do it either. You could have understood her the first time but I guess you have your limitations. Either that or you just wanted to insult her intelligence. You were the only one that had a problem with understanding what she was doing. It says a lot about you. |

Red lump in my dog's lower outer eyelid
Char, there is a very limited number of things this red lump is likely
to be. If it doesn't change or clear up with moist heat applied for 2-3 days, then it's pretty much beyond home-cure, as it's not a simple "sty". If the lady wants to know what it is, then it's time to seek a professional opinion, even if it turns out to be some trivial, benign thing. I have found very few vets who put money above service.... and worst one I encountered was the first "holistic" vet in the region. Just like physicians, they have to pay insurance, staff (benefits are now necessary to keep good workers, as are living wages, especially for school trained staff), mortgages or rent, costs of equipment, state and local business licensure, utilities (here, electricity and telephone to businesses are almost 50% higher than home service), for stock medications and medical supplies, maintenance of everything. Costs for all of these have been creeping up.... if not leaping. The days of cheap vet service are pretty much gone. Jo Wolf Martinez, Georgia |
