Right. Onions and that entire family of vegetables, to include leeks
and garlic, cause a hemolytic (red bood cells fall apart) anemia that is difficult to treat. Jo Wolf Martinez, Georgia, USA |

Jo Wolf Martinez, Georgia, USA Sugar isn't too good for dogs either. The worst food seems to be bar snacks. Holly, Rug's sister, was often taken to the pub where she would be settled with a bag of the kind of crud that humans eat. Her teeth were dreadful by the time she was eight. OTOH, Lagarteran dogs that eat kibble and raw meat like chicken necks given free by the butcher, tend to have very clean teeth. My guess is that onions in very small amounts given only very occasionally are OK, as many dogs here eat human leftovers which may include onions, and live to a ripe old age. But you are right Jo, deliberately introducing ionions into a dog's diet is not sensible. Alison, Spain where it is very hot |

Onions in more then very minor amounts are not safe for dogs. Nor is sugar and they are not as salt tolerant as we are either. That is a terrible recipe for a dog. -- |
