Default Scent pads

At Last week's training seminar for Search and Rescue, they had us scent
gauze pads, and then send the dog to find the scent that matched the pad.

This morning, I found a mushroom. But i couldn't see any more. So I scented
Tuck on the mushroom, and he went out and found two hats full of mushrooms
for me.

Cool! I can think of some other handy applications...truffles? Money?

No, I don't believe we have them here...I was kidding. But more seriously,
I wonder whether dogs or pigs have the better sniffers?

That's amazing!

Now you can dry and sell the extra shrooms!

(I adore dried mushrooms and use them all the time)

I don't know, but the mushroom hunting didn't go as well today.
My husband searched the area, and found two. I then sent Tuck in, and he
went nuts. He tried to retrieve pepper tops which are very fragile, and
they fell appart into confetti sized peices.

So I requested a passive indication, and he would lie down on them.
(DIRECTLY on them) which shattered them like confetti.

Or he's paw them, and he found one large sized area abundant with them and
was unsure as to how to indicate them all and he rolled over and over on
them all, shattering them.

Then once they were confetti, the smell was still there, and he kept coming
back to indicate the areas that he pulverized the mushrooms over and over
again. He also indicated multiple times, the areas where they once were,
and had been picked. After awhile, he was doing so much redundant work,
that we decided to just call off the k9 mushroom search.

So Of the 30-40 that he found, only about 12 were left large enough to
collect. The rest have spores well distributed for next year's crop. I
guess 12 is better than the none we would have found, but still.. It would
have been a bit nicer, had he preserved them intact.

I hope you have years to work on this, but thanks for the great picture!

Yes there are

However the native truffles are not the same as those that are native to
Europe.
